We are seeking a dedicated and experienced 1:1 Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our team and provide tailored support for one of our amazing pupils.
The child requires consistent and personalised care to thrive in their educational environment. We are looking for a proactive, caring individual who will put their needs and the very forefront of everything that they do. This is a term time only role, 30 hours per week. This role is fixed term until March 2026.
Your Role:
As a 1:1 Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for:
Providing dedicated 1:1 support to the child throughout the school day, including during outdoor provision activities, some of which may be off site.
Working collaboratively with a second TA and the wider school team to implement the requirements of the pupils Education Health Care Plan
Supporting with communication, using a variety of strategies (e.g., visual aids, PECS, Makaton - training can be provided as needed).
Providing care and support around toileting and feeding.
Managing sensory needs, creating a calm and supportive environment, and providing a ‘sensory diet’ on a daily basis to promote engagement.
Accompanying the pupil on external outdoor provisions such as horse riding and equine therapy, ensuring his safety and well-being.
Maintaining accurate records of progress and daily activities.
Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil and their family.
Maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Essential Requirements:
Experience working with children with complex needs, particularly in the areas of communication, intimate care, feeding, and sensory processing.
A patient, empathetic, and understanding approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
A willingness to undertake relevant training.
Ability to work in outdoor environments.
Desirable Requirements:
Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
Experience with PECS or Makaton.
Experience with sensory integration strategies.
First Aid certification.

St Barnabas Multi Academy Trust is made up of a group of 13 schools, of which St Martin's CE Primary School is one, who work closely together in order to ensure they provide the best education for pupils in the Liskeard Area. Teachers across the Trust share the workload by actively working together to support; subject leadership, curriculum development, planning, outdoor education and residential visits. In this way everyone feels part of the wider organisation and understand the benefits of a collaborative approach.
