What skills and experience we're looking for
Parsonage Farm Nursery and Infant School is seeking to appoint an experienced 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a child in Nursery who has autism with global delay and speech and language needs (not significantly challenging behaviour needs). The hours for this position will be 12.20pm – 3.20pm Monday to Friday.
Essential:
- Experience of supporting young children with complex needs
- Patience and understanding in supporting children with special needs
- Ability to engage with an individual child and teach or model new skills
- Willingness to learn new skills/access training to support specific learning needs
- Willing to provide intimate care for children
- A positive, approachable and caring attitude
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, staff and outside agencies
- High expectations of learning and behaviour for all children
- A team player, full of enthusiasm and with a good sense of humour
- Ability to use initiative
Desirable:
- Knowledge of makaton or signing
- Knowledge of delivering speech and language programmes (training provided)
- Understanding of sensory needs and how to support children with these
The position is to start as soon as possible and will be until July 2024 initially but could continue while the child is in our school.
