Pilgrim Primary Academy, Reach South Academy Trust is seeking to appoint an exceptional and experienced SENCO to join the School from September 2025 / January 2026

Location: Oxford Street, Stonehouse, Plymouth PL1 5BQ

Salary Range: MPS/UPS plus SENCO allowance

Hours/Contract: Permanent – 32.5hrs per week, Monday-Friday

The Role: We are seeking to appoint an outstanding SENDCo and Inclusion Leader to join us

We are looking for a SENDCo who will co-ordinate and support the needs of the children with special educational needs in classes but also a teacher who can deliver quality intervention across the school for pupils who need additional support. Our new SENDCo will be someone who is able to contribute to and work within our fully inclusive approach to education. Our pupils are fantastic learners who deserve the best possible education every day. Our school is a happy, supportive environment with a lovely site which is well resourced. Being close to the City Centre means we can readily access many educational facilities and activities which are right on our doorstep.

This role is non class based but some teaching commitments will be required as needed across the school. You will also be required to become a Designated Safeguarding Lead and take in a school DSL evening commitment one night a week. You will form part of the school’s Middle Leadership Team (MLT) reporting to the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team.

The Person: The appointed teacher would need to fulfil the following criteria:


Qualified Teaching Status


Experience of working with children with SEND needs in a primary school setting


A sound working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice


The ability to lead staff in developing their knowledge and expertise in working with SEND children


The ability to support teachers to develop adapted curriculum provision for pupils with SEND needs


Excellent communication skills and an ability to work within a team and enable liaison across a variety of external agencies


A commitment to supporting staff in closing the gap in attainment for SEND and under resourced pupils


An understanding of how we cater inclusively for the needs of all our under resourced pupils


The ability to develop positive professional relationships with children, staff and parents.
