What skills and experience we're looking for

Physical Education department

The Physical Education department is looking to appoint a motivated and inspirational 2IC P.E, to join an ambitious and successful PE team and provide leadership support to our Head of Department. P.E is a popular subject with a history of excellent outcomes. Our P.E. Department is high performing, friendly and supportive. Within the department, there is a collaborative approach to teaching and learning, where expertise and good practice is shared to ensure high quality teaching and learning.

The school has enjoyed sporting success at local, London and regional level, particularly in cricket and table-tennis. We have strong links with Essex Cricket and are planning to run an elite player programme alongside our curriculum. We take pride in competing in a wide range of sports. We have recently developed our onsite sports facilities including a new sports hall and cardio and weights studio.

We offer a number of courses including GCSE P.E. and CNAT Sport Studies at KS4. A Level P.E. at KS5 was a new addition for September 2023. Experience in teaching one or more of these courses will be advantageous.

For September 2024, our 2IC P.E. will have:

  • an innovative approach to leading a key area of the P.E. Department, both in and outside the classroom
  • high expectations of students in terms of learning, achievement and behaviour
  • enthusiasm for developing innovative approaches to learning, teaching and student participation
  • a passion for their subject, someone who will ensure a wide and well attended programme of extra-curricular opportunities for all our students
  • the learner at the centre of their vision
  • the ability to inspire, challenge, motivate and empower our students to achieve
  • excellent knowledge of the PE National curriculum at KS3, KS4 and KS5
  • Experience of teaching GCSE P.E.
  • Experience of teaching A Level P.E.
  • A background in Cricket
  • a full driving licence

What the school offers its staff

The school has an excellent CPD programme and is committed to developing all staff, as we continue to provide all our students with outstanding learning experiences. This includes three staff training afternoons, two department meetings and one twilight training session every 6 weeks. Lessons finish for students at 1:45 pm on a Friday.
