What skills and experience we're looking for

As a result of the previous post holder gaining promotion, Larkmead School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, talented and inspiring Second in Science Faculty to start at either Easter 2023 or September 2023. This is an excellent opportunity for an inspirational, enthusiastic and well qualified teacher to join and help lead our thriving Science team. Although all specialisms are encouraged to apply, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates with the ability and confidence to teach and lead on Chemistry.

As the successful candidate you will be:

  • a qualified Science teacher who is always looking to develop
  • confident teaching across Key Stages 3 to 4 and, desirably, Key Stage 5
  • passionate about all aspects of Science
  • organised, enthusiastic and efficient
  • committed to making a difference to young people’s lives
  • a confident leader with excellent communication and inter-personal skills

Larkmead is a happy, ambitious and vibrant school packed full of energy, opportunity and choice. Great teaching and learning across the school are supported by our culture of research and collaboration. Each student gets the very best experience to enable them to achieve their ambitions. Our pastoral care provides compassion, security and confidence, nurturing students to be happy, to develop and to thrive. The Larkmead Promise sets out our vision, ethos and ambitions for students and staff.

What the school offers its staff

Our Science Faculty at Larkmead School is a supportive group of teachers passionate about the subject of Science. We aim to inspire students about the world around them whilst teaching the skills and content necessary for academic success. The second in faculty is key in ensuring high expectations and standards are maintained and will work closely with the Head of Faculty to manage day-to-day elements of teaching and learning as well as long term strategic planning. Time is built into the curriculum so that effective discussion can take place. Our current foci include the implementation and impact of our new KS3 curriculum as well as a focus on meaningful practical work and the “How Science Works” skills necessary for success at GCSE and KS5.

We offer:

  • an excellent programme of induction and training which seeks to provide an excellent foundation for career progression
  • a forward thinking environment which recognises the benefits of considering flexible working patterns
  • a friendly, caring, supportive and collaborative team environment
  • a professional environment dedicated to Teaching and Learning with a supportive, dedicated and hardworking staff

Commitment to safeguarding

At Larkmead safeguarding and student welfare is of paramount importance and to that end we will always put the physical and mental wellbeing of students first.
