What skills and experience we're looking for

About the role

This is a brand new role within Downend School that involves working with students almost entirely out of the normal classroom environment. The purpose of this role is to help students close academic gaps, particularly in English and Maths, and reintegrate back into the mainstream classroom. You’ll take lead responsibility in planning, preparing, coordinating and delivering 1:1 and small group work, complementing the work of the teaching staff and other specialised interventions within the school. You’ll work with a range of students, some of which may display challenging behaviours, have been identified as having a SEND need or those who are transitioning after a long period of absence.

About you

We are looking for:

  • An experienced, enthusiastic, proactive and resourceful person who is committed to securing high standards for all young people.
  • A person able to plan and lead group work and 1:1 intervention sessions for students with literacy and numeracy needs and who are finding mainstream classes a challenge.
  • Someone with good communication and organisational skills that will include dealing with parents, outside agencies and the students.
  • Someone who will provide inspiration and support to the student support team working around them.
  • Someone who has a good level of literacy, ideally A-Level or above.
  • An individual who has an understanding of the barriers to learning including social and emotional behaviour needs.
  • Someone with good emotional intelligence and patience as well as the confidence to work with secondary students from KS3 and KS4.
  • Excellent organisation skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Someone able to think on their feet and overcome challenges

What the school offers its staff

We can offer you:

  • Commitment to CPD and development of all staff including collaborative support and instructional coaching to allow teachers to thrive
  • A commitment to inclusivity and fostering of diversity
  • Values and vision that are lived not laminated
  • An open and honest culture
  • A commitment to the health and wellbeing of our staff
  • Local Government pension with up to 19% Employer contributions
  • Up to 30% discount with Microsoft & Dell
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Life Assurance - 3 x Death in Service
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Dedicated counselling service

Commitment to safeguarding

CSET is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful candidates are subject to child protection screening appropriate to the post, which will include an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check for the children’s workforce and a Children’s Barred List check.
