What skills and experience we're looking for

Candidates suitable for the role will:

  • be confident in teaching Religious Studies up to and including A level to high achieving students
  • either have experience in managing a team, or be excited about developing their coaching, mentoring and leadership skills with our support
  • be passionate about personal and professional development and demonstrate a willingness to engage in evidence-based research through our whole school CPD programme
  • help extend and enrich students’ school experiences beyond the curriculum
  • have the ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and parents

What the school offers its staff

We can offer:

  • the opportunity to join and lead a highly successful Religious Studies department with a wide range of experience and expertise
  • a stimulating and creative environment in a school where extra-curricular activities flourish and teachers are encouraged to introduce new and innovative activities
  • a CPD provision tailored to your needs focusing on areas of research and development
  • a diverse workplace, with an engaged student and staff community who are currently collaborating on a review of the school’s approach to equality, diversity and inclusion
  • a supportive environment where the work-life balance of teachers is proactively supported by the governors and senior leadership team
  • a two-week October half term
  • numerous other benefits (please see our attached information pack)

Further details about the role

We are seeking to appoint a nurturing individual with a talent for leadership, who has the knowledge and skills to inspire our extremely engaged, articulate and diverse student body. The school greatly values the contribution that the study of Religious Studies brings to its curriculum offer and to the all-round development of the students, helping them be more tolerant and understanding and flourish as global citizens.

The department aims to inspire and encourage students to engage with complex debates and to gain a greater understanding of both their own opinions and the opinions of others.

While the successful candidate will be confident in teaching Religious Studies to A level to high achieving students, the school will support the development of the skills needed to lead a department, and previous management experience is therefore not essential.

Commitment to safeguarding

The Tiffin Girls’ School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share and support this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to both a full employment history and child protection check, and will also be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring (criminal record) check.
