Additional Needs Teaching Assistant (ANTA) Level 2 (x2 Positions Available) job summary

Dear Prospective Candidate,

Devonshire Primary Academy wishes to appoint two temporary Additional Needs Teaching Assistants (ANTA) at Level 2 to provide learning support to pupils facing barriers to learning.  The posts are to work with children who have been assessed as requiring 1:1 support; the 32.5-hour post is to work with a child in Reception and the 30-hour post is to work with a child in Year 5.  In addition to supporting these children, the candidates appointed must be flexible and respond to the needs of the wider team as appropriate and as instructed by their Line Manager.

The positions available are temporary contracts (one for 32.5 hours per week and another for 30 hours per week) and will terminate in accordance with the notice period when either: i) the child you are contracted to work with leaves school or ii) the child you are contracted to work with has their individual needs reviewed and the 1:1 statemented support is no longer required.  At this stage, we would hope that we are in a position to offer an alternative ANTA post, as we have previously, but this could not be guaranteed.

The successful candidates will be passionate, innovative and flexible and want to make a difference to the lives of our children.  They will fully engage children in their learning and make a positive contribution to the delivery of quality learning experiences for the children they work with.  The successful candidates must have relevant primary school experience and be able to demonstrate an understanding of children’s educational development throughout the relevant age range.  We would be interested to hear of previous experience in a 1:1 role, as well as any curricular strengths or areas of expertise/interest.

At Devonshire Primary Academy, every child is important and everyone is treated as an individual.  We place great emphasis on our ability to provide a secure, caring and welcoming environment in which everyone has pride in themselves and strives to achieve the highest possible standard of learning, behaviour and attitudes.  We endeavour to ensure that all children leave our care with a love of education and with the building blocks they need to become confident, life-long learners.

Our newly-designed curriculum provides a balance of core skills, enriched within a wide range of experiences and opportunities which enable all of our children to succeed, irrespective of circumstance.

Our dedicated staff, parents and governors all work together as a team to make Devonshire Primary Academy the best environment for our children to thrive.

At Devonshire Primary Academy, open methods of communication are well-established so that a shared responsibility for the development of the academy are much in evidence.  The candidates appointed will be joining an imaginative and mutually-supportive team where the creative ANTA can contribute to the Academy as a whole.  The successful candidates will:

  • Understand teaching and learning within the primary school setting;
  • Have high personal and professional standards;
  • Have high expectations of themselves;
  • Be willing to engage in CPD and remain updated on best practice;
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Be enthusiastic and hardworking;
  • Provide a high standard of social, emotional and intellectual care for young children;
  • Have the ability to work independently, as well as enjoy working closely and cooperatively as part of a team;
  • Provide support to the class teacher and assist in implementing the daily routine of a class; and
  • Be able to implement activities for children as required under the direction of the class teacher.

Devonshire Primary Academy is a happy, exciting and productive school with a wealth of opportunities for our children and staff. We can offer you:

  • The chance to be part of a closely connected, dedicated and hardworking staff;
  • A friendly and supportive whole school staff team;
  • Opportunities for professional development;
  • A commitment to reducing staff workload and prioritising staff wellbeing – The Sea View Trust has recently signed up to the DfE Wellbeing Charter and Devonshire Primary Academy was named as Active Workplace of the Year 2023 at Active Lives Community Awards;
  • A consistent, supportive and fair approach to dealing with staff absence, which applies to all employees and covers all types of absence;
  • Term time employment, allowing you to spend school holidays with family;
  • Enrolment into a pension scheme – employees do not pay tax or national insurance on their pension contributions and the school add a generous employer contribution;
  • Free onsite parking;
  • The option to purchase a new bicycle and cycling equipment via salary sacrifice making tax and national insurance savings; and
  • The opportunity to work in a school which is at the heart of its community and always looking for innovative ways to provide the best education.

Visits to the academy are encouraged and have been scheduled for Tuesday 7th January at 9:30am and 3:30pm. If you wish to visit, please arrange this by emailing admin@devonshire.svt.org.uk and providing your name and telephone number.  We would also invite you to peruse our school website: https://www.devonshire.blackpool.sch.uk/ and our Facebook Page: Devonshire Primary Academy to gain an insight into our wonderful school.

The closing date for applications is Monday 13th January at 9:00am and interviews are currently scheduled to take place on Friday 17th January.

We look forward to receiving your application should you wish to apply.

Mr D.P. Simm
