Apprentice IT Technician job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at ASSET Education for the position of an IT Apprentice working for the Trust IT team based in our Ipswich Hub. We are looking for people with a real passion for IT to join our team. In the role of IT Apprentice you will be supporting the IT infrastructure within schools and the teaching and learning. There will be support and guidance available to you from our team of technicians as well as the opportunity to network with them across the trust. We are able to train on a variety of systems we use across the trust including network infrastructure, web design, audio visual and a range of other services.

ASSET Education is an Education Trust which is currently made up of fourteen primary schools across Suffolk.

This role will include but is not limited to:

  • Completing an Apprenticeship qualification with a College or similar provider.

  • Assisting to deliver an efficient IT Service to our Trust schools with high levels of satisfaction.

  • Deploying software and hardware solutions

  • Maintain and advise on availability of IT equipment, preparing and setting up as required

  • Liaising with and providing advice and support to teaching staff in the preparation and delivery of lessons

  • Providing advice and practical support to pupils and ensure compliance with safe working practices

  • Attend lessons when required to assist pupils with IT work

  • Full driving licence and own car desirable but not essential

Reporting to: IT Manager/ Cluster Lead


Mentoring and On the Job training

  • You will be mentored by an Cluster Lead

  • You will will be taught by other members of the Team

  • There will be days when you will need to be able to work under your own initiative

  • You will be working at different schools in your working week.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To provide first line helpdesk support to students and staff for hardware, software, audio-visual, photocopiers and telephone equipment and other ICT Support tasks as directed by the IT Manager, Cluster lead, IT Technicians and the Headteacher

  • Logging all support calls within the helpdesk system, ensuring that all relevant information is captured and correctly prioritised.

  • Monitoring the helpdesk system for incoming requests, and action for support or additional information.

  • Ensuring that all issues are progressed to meet agreed SLA targets.

  • Ensuring that all issues are kept up to date and staff members are informed of the progress.

  • Ensuring that all issues are updated with the full resolution details prior to closure.

  • To install and configure hardware and software.

  • To assist with the upkeep of the Trust I.T. inventory.

  • To help maintain appropriate stock levels of computer consumables and accessories.

  • To maintain satisfactory standards of safety, security and risk management in relation to IT and IT equipment.

  • To undertake any other relevant duties as may reasonably be requested by the IT manager, IT Technicians and the Headteacher

  • Up to date User account administration.

  • Classroom technical support and assistance including supporting learning in lessons.

  • Daily checking and maintenance of computer suites; printer and photocopier toner/ink cartridge replacement and filling with paper as required.

  • Periodic hardware audits as directed by the IT Manager

  • Daily checks around the school site to identify potential technical support issues.

  • Assisting with audio‐visual setups for assemblies and calendared after‐school events.

  • Helping identify useful Apps/software to support learning or improve working processes.
