Salary: £20,173 - £20,855 (Actual Salary) , (FTE: £23,500 - £24,294)

Role: Art and Design Technician

Matthew Arnold School is a thriving community school on the outskirts of Oxford that is part of the Acer Trust and we are looking to appoint an Art and Design Technician.

Matthew Arnold is an oversubscribed inclusive 11-18 school of over 1,300 pupils that serves a mix of urban and rural communities across the west side of Oxford. The school prides itself on being a high achieving school with increasing rates of progress for our disadvantaged students. This has been achieved by focusing on improving outcomes for every student and continuing staff development.

Main purpose of the role

  • Helping in preparation for lessons and cleaning up and maintaining teaching resources in good order; areas include studios, dark room, storerooms
  • Liaising with staff and other technicians to ensure successful delivery of lessons and examinations
  • Maintaining machinery and equipment and attending appropriate training courses as required
  • Mounting and displaying work throughout the school as directed and maintaining display areas
  • Control of stock of departmental materials and ordering new materials as necessary
  • Liaising with teachers to assist with students’ learning and support in art and design, including photography, pottery /ceramics, textiles, resistant materials
  • Running small workshops for students as well as planning and designing the yearly Art and Design exhibition whilst setting up smaller classroom size exhibitions for the Art and Design Moderators
  • Work as part of a team, supporting the team leader with workload
  • To adhere to policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person

Requirements

  • Qualified in English and Maths (GCSE A*-C, or level 4+)
  • Relevant experience of working with cutting machinery, drills, saws / kilns / dark rooms / lighting equipment / specialist printers /framing etc
  • First Aid trained or readiness to undertake emergency first aid at work training
  • An interest in the education of young people and secondary school systems
  • A passion for ART and Graphics Design
  • Proficient IT skills
