What skills and experience we're looking for

Oak Lodge School are seeking an Art, Design and Digital Media teacher to join our friendly team from September 2025. We are an outstanding secondary special school based in East Finchley and we pride ourselves on the excellent care and support we provide to our young people (Ofsted 2025). This post would be well suited to experienced SEND practitioners who have a keen interest in teaching art (and good digital art skills) or mainstream art teachers looking to creatively plan and deliver art to learners with a wide range of special educational needs (learning disabilities, physical disabilities and social /communication needs). Art subjects have historically been an area where our students have been able to excel, and we would like our students to continue to have this opportunity by using innovative digital media technologies which can make this subject more accessible for our learners.

Applicants will:

  • Have QTS status and either specialist subject knowledge or experience of working with young people with SEND and a strong interest in delivering art and digital media.

  • Believe, inspire and achieve.

  • Enjoy developing positive relationships with our students, providing a model of excellence in terms of teaching & learning.

  • Have an enthusiasm for new evidence-based approaches including the implementation of your ideas.

  • Be reflective practitioners with a “can do” approach to teaching and with a passion to raise standards.

  • Be able to support all students to believe they have the potential to thrive creatively, academically, socially and emotionally.

  • Be ambitious, professional and committed to further personal development and committed to working as part of a dynamic team of professionals both in and out of the classroom.

What the school offers its staff

Oak Lodge School is part of Barnet Special Education Trust, which is an organisation where all staff feel happy, valued and supported. We can offer the ideal candidate the following:

  • Excellent CPD opportunities, working collaboratively alongside outstanding and experienced practitioners.

  • Small class sizes and excellent staff: student ratio.

  • A great teaching space and new facilities/equipment – the refurbishment of our current Art room is expected to be completed by September 2025.

  • Outer London Pay Scale plus SEN Allowance

  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme which covers wellbeing, financial and legal support

  • Great location in East Finchley with good public transport links.

Further information about this role can be found in the Job Description/Person Specification attachment.
