We have an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to join John Hanson Community School as a teacher of Computing but with an expectation that you would become the Head of Faculty within 12-24 months. You would be mentored and supported throughout by our Head of Computing, as well as given high quality middle leadership training. Additionally, there is a recruitment and retention allowance for the right candidate.

Computer Science is taught as a core subject in KS3, and in KS4 continues as an option subject with BTEC Tech award in creative media production as an additional option. The department is very forward thinking and continually looks for courses that are relevant to our students. We currently have over 100 students taking our KS4 courses as an option.The Department is well resourced with 2 dedicated Computer Suites and the latest software installed to support an engaging curriculum for our students.
The successful candidate will have excellent up to date Computing subject knowledge, good organisation and communication skills and embrace school life. They need to be a good team player and able to support the Subject Leader in implementing significant changes to the GCSE Curriculum and assessment. In addition, they must be prepared to teach a variety of different courses across the department including BTEC Media. The successful candidate must have an innovative and engaging approach to lessons to convey the subject to pupils and students, and monitor and assess to ensure the best possible progress.

The School
John Hanson is a comprehensive community school for students aged 11 – 16. There are currently 980 students on roll; the teaching establishment is around 55 teachers, 55 support staff and a strong sense of community. The Leadership team are totally committed to the principles of comprehensive education and providing the very best learning experience we can for each individual. It is the school’s role to ensure that all students and staff are supported to reach their full potential.
The school can trace its origins back to 1569 with the foundation of Andover Grammar School. In the 1970s the grammar school became a comprehensive school and was renamed John Hanson School after an original benefactor of the Grammar School. In 2002 the school relocated to a greenfield site towards the outskirts of Andover, very close to the A303.
