Biddenham is an 11-19, oversubscribed school that, as we expand, is entering the next phase of its development. Due to our popularity, and as part of our £4.5 million building programme, we are growing and strengthening our already high performing staff team who, by 2025, will be working with 1500 students.
Commencing September 2024, we seek to appoint a well-qualified, creative and inspirational Assistant Head of English to join our outstanding team.
The post holder requires strong knowledge of English Literature and Language, with experience of teaching at least two key stages. We study the AQA GCSE English Literature and Language and AQA A-level English Literature and AQA A-level English Language. The department also leads on the Level 3 Extended Project Qualification, alongside Level 2 retake English Language and Literature and Functional Skills English for Post-16 students. There are many opportunities to teach a wide range of age groups.
The English Department is well resourced and is committed to extending and improving its range of opportunities for students. Our Key Stage 3 English curriculum includes Oracy teaching, which is delivered through core themes that connect the whole curriculum. Key Stage 4 is taught as a combination of English Language and Literature, through set GCSE texts.
The successful candidate will be an excellent and approachable classroom practitioner, able to adapt learning in order to secure the best outcomes for all learners. Above all else, the successful candidate should be enthusiastic about their work with young people and have a genuine concern for their development as individuals. The school has well established systems for tracking student progress and all teachers benefit from being part of a whole school collaborative teaching and learning approach.
The school sees the Form Tutor as a key role in the support, development and welfare of the students and teachers are expected to undertake this role with the same standards and commitment as their subject role.
