What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Assistant Head of English from April 2023, however we would consider September 2023, who would enjoy the challenges of moving the department to outstanding. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in raising achievement at both key stages and supporting colleagues to further improve teaching and learning. We are looking for someone with a proven track record who has the drive, passion and commitment to raise the profile of the subject. At Swanmore we are looking for hardworking, ambitious and dynamic staff committed to excellence. You will be a self-motivated and reflective teacher who is keen to develop further, have strong interpersonal skills and be an excellent team player.

What the school offers its staff

Swanmore Supports Your Professional Development

We are fully committed to championing professional development and all teaching staff are allocated a specific slot for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) reducing a teaching load by one period a week.

Swanmore Supports Your Career Goals

We have a successful mentoring and coaching culture at Swanmore that supports teachers at all levels of their career to pursue professional development in the direction that most interests them. We would actively encourage interest from candidates who would like to pursue their professional development through the Department for Education (DFE) ‘National professional qualifications’ (NPQs) route when the next round of applications open in 2023. Alongside a dedicated mentor to successfully achieve this qualification, you will be given time – in addition to the CPD period all teachers receive, you will receive an additional protected period included in your teaching load to support the DFE estimated ‘average weekly study time of 1 to 2 hours’ for the qualification.

Further details about the role

In addition, Swanmore provides:

- Access to internal training development opportunities (we support National Professional Qualifications at all levels, run an Extended Leadership Secondment and can contribute to Masters/PhD courses)

- Access to a wealth of CPD, such as The National College, Optimus and iHasco and a free subscription to TES Magazine online, along with a CPD hour on the timetable

- Access to Professional & Career Coaches/Mentors and self-evaluation tools (such as Swivl)

- An array of staff wellbeing initiatives: Staff extra-curricular activities such as Yoga, Football, Walking club and Baking club, free refreshments, fresh fruit and food on Parents’ Evenings and Events

- Free on-site parking

- Employee Assistance Programme

- Free Microsoft Office for home and loan equipment available (visualizer, graphics tablet, device)

Please note, we reserve the right to close vacancies early if we receive applications that meet the criteria, therefore you are strongly advised to submit your application as soon as possible. Interviews may take place earlier than advertised.
