The Bulmershe School is a successful comprehensive school which has served the local community for over 50 years; the school was opened in 1964 as a grammar school and has grown from strength to strength over recent years.
There are presently around 1,200 students on roll including 200 in the sixth form. Approximately 30% of students speak a first language which is not English and some students join us at an early stage of English language acquisition. We are truly a thriving international community who in November 2017 were validated by Ofsted as good with outstanding features in every category. Our diversity is our strength.
Whilst we are delighted to have received real praise from Ofsted for our work we are not complacent; we constantly look for new ideas and ways to support our students to achieve their potential. We see challenges as opportunities and with this positive mind set are open to ideas from all our staff.
The school roll draws from a diverse area including areas of social advantage although a very significant proportion of students come from areas of social and/or economic deprivation. Attainment in GCSE examinations has easily exceeded national averages for years and is improving faster than the national trend. Last year’s results were our best ever and next year’s are expected to be even better. We expect the very best of grades and the very best of progress for all our students; regardless of background or ability. The Bulmershe School is proud of the many national awards we have achieved in recognition of the many strengths of the school.
