Assistant Head Teacher (Acting in the first instance) job summary

The Assistant Head teacher will carry out the professional duties as set out in the school Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document.

They will assist the Head of School in managing, organising and developing its staff, Deputise for the Head of School as required, carry out other management responsibilities or tasks allocated and carry out the professional duties of a teacher.

Main Duties: the following list is typical of the level of duties which the assistant head will be expected to perform. It is not necessarily exhaustive and other duties of a similar type and level may be required from time to time.

1. To carry out the professional duties of an Assistant Head Teacher as set out in the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document. Carry out teaching duties in accordance with the school's schemes of work and the National Curriculum.
2 To assist the Head of School and the Leadership Team in the management, organisation and running of the school, including assisting in the development and implementation of school aims, objectives, procedures, policies and practices.

3 To contribute to the development of school improvement relating to teaching and learning and to take a lead role in implementing specific objectives and subsequent training developments;

4 To demonstrate good teaching practice and innovate, inspire and motive other staff. Promote teamwork and trust and be a professional role model for other staff.

6 To ensure the S.M.S.C. Agenda is promoted and captured.

7 To plan and manage school timetables as appropriate.

8 To take a lead responsibility for Looked after Children, providing advice and support to staff, liaising with the local authority and working with other agencies in order to ensure Looked after Children concerns are dealt with promptly and effectively.

9 Ensure co-ordination of budgetary processes as required.

11 To provide cover in the absence of the Head of Site from the school as required by the governing body,

12 To be responsible for exam co-ordination.
