Assistant Head Teacher job summary

Mount Tamar has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with about 110 pupils on roll from many different Local Authorities in the South West.

The school caters for young people aged 4 to 16 years who, for a variety of reasons, find it difficult to be successful within mainstream schools as full-time pupils. We specialise in supporting students with social and emotional difficulties, attachment and autism.

The school manages a small number of satellite centres across Plymouth to meet individual students' academic and social needs. We strive to provide the very best educational experience so that all our students can reach their full potential, as they become responsible and proactive members of the community.

We are a friendly and caring community that firmly believes in treating each young person as an individual and providing them with the skills and tools they need to be a success. Mount Tamar School offers a quality-learning environment with all students being supported by a team of experienced trained staff dedicated to sustaining a school, where excellent teaching enables students to develop their abilities to the full.

The core purpose of the Assistant Head role is to provide professional leadership and management to ensure all pupils have excellent outcomes and staff are supported and developed in their roles.

Accountable to the Executive Headteacher, the Assistant Headteacher will be joining an established team consisting of the Executive Headteacher, Head of School, Deputy Headteacher (Quality of Education), one existing Assistant Headteacher (Behaviour and Attitudes) and the school’s SENCO this new role will focus on personal development across the school.

This role will focus on the Personal development of all pupils at Mount Tamar. The role will involve looking at how the curriculum and SEND provision supports this for all pupils and how we can be Ofsted Good or better in all areas of the inspection framework.
