What skills and experience we're looking for
Due to our current AHT gaining a promotion, we are seeking a suitably qualified colleague to continue his excellent work in the school. We feel the role would suit someone who is currently an assistant head looking for a new challenge, or someone who has been a head of year or key stage or pastoral lead. We are sure that heads of department/subject leads looking for a different challenge could also be successful in this role. Regardless of background a proven track record of adding value by ensuring excellent levels of academic progress and provision will be essential.
- The successful candidate will be able to model outstanding teaching in the classroom to develop the practice of all staff. We would expect the appointee to teach around 8-12 periods per week.
- The successful candidate will lead our small dedicated pastoral team to support our students.
- The successful candidate will need to have the skills and experience to deal with parents, local residents and external agencies as we seek to set the highest possible standards.
What the school offers its staff
Becket Keys is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
The appointee will be committed to our high expectations and core values – we welcome applications from teachers irrespective of their faith or belief. However, we ask for applicants to appreciate and respect the beliefs of others and have strong moral principles.
Staff of the school benefit from priority admission for their children. Our admissions policy effectively guarantees staff a place in the school for their children. With over 800 applications for our 150 places each year, this is a significant perk! In addition, staff will be provided with a comprehensive induction programme and laptop, childcare vouchers are available, and childcare is available at a neighbouring provision with discounted rates for staff members.
Further details about the role
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join the senior leadership team at Becket Keys Church of England School. We are an extremely welcoming, supportive and caring school looking for a pastoral leader who values relationships with staff and students, service to the school community, and sees fruitfulness in every individual. You will understand flourishing in its broadest sense, understanding the importance of wellbeing, performance and character.
This post is a vital appointment in terms of fulfilling our Christian vision and ambition for our inclusive school to secure and enhance life chances for all our students. Our ethos is one of character education, seeing staff as role models of our Christian values and teachers of good choices. The way we lead pastorally here is quite different to many schools. It might be different to what you have previously experienced, so the successful candidate will need to be willing to adapt to this approach. We know that when working with pastoral matters there will be times when things are not perfect. We are looking for a professional who is willing to learn, reflect and grow. We care for each other here as a family and all students are known by name; we take the role ‘in loco parentis’ very seriously - caring for students as if they are our own children.
Commitment to safeguarding
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will need a full DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, which can be applied for once a job offer is made.
