Main purpose of the job

  • Carry out the duties of this post in line with the remit outlined in the current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document including the conditions of employment for assistant headteachers and the school’s own policy
  • Carry out the professional duties of a teacher as required
  • Under the overall direction of the headteacher and deputy headteacher play a major role:
  • o in formulating the aims, objectives of the schools and establishing the policies through which they are to be achieved
  • o be responsible for the standards and curriculum of all pupils including quality assuring of progress towards achievement
  • o proactively manage staff and resources within your area of responsibility.

Securing accountability

Support colleagues and governing body in fulfilling their responsibilities with regard to the school’s performance

Contribute to the reporting of the school’s performance to the school’s community and partners

Promote and protect the health and safety welfare of pupils and colleagues

Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school, reporting any concerns.

Strengthening community

Work with the headteacher and deputy headteacher in developing the policies and practice, which promote inclusion, equality and the extended services that the school offers

Support the school with building a strong reputation in the local area so that it is a school of choice. This means linking with local groups, businesses, local charities and other groups.

Organise and conduct meetings where appropriate with parents and carers to ensure positive outcomes for all parties

Inform people about the school in meetings, tours or open day events.

Promote positive relationships and work with colleagues in other schools and external agencies

Duties and Responsibilities- SENCo

To contribute to the School Development Plan (SDP) related to SEND and to update and review regularly.

To write, review and implement the SEND Policy, ensuring it is published on the school website.

To manage the budget for SEND, identifying resources to meet the needs of pupils with SEND.

To ensure the school is complying with the requirements of the SEND Code of Practice.

To ensure effective systems of communication with all stakeholders.

To have an up to date knowledge of national and local initiatives which may impact on policy and practice.

To quality assure teaching and learning provision and ensuring it meets the needs of pupils with SEND.

To support all colleagues to recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities to pupils with SEND ensuring that the school is fully inclusive.

To provide training opportunities for staff to support pupils with SEND needs.

To contribute to weekly Inclusion meetings to outline the support and need of pupils with SEND.

  • To fulfil the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead.

To develop links with other professionals, agencies, governors and schools

To undertake any professional duties, reasonably delegated by the line manager

Duties and Responsibilities- Lead for the ASD Unit

To support the SEN teacher responsible for the ASD Unit, in its day to day running through quality assurance and the appraisal process

To undertake appraisal of support staff in the ASD unit.

To be an excellent role model in the teaching and learning and behaviour management of pupils in the/ASD unit.

To ensure a high standard of provision and progress for all ASD unit pupils.

To ensure the high quality of teaching and learning in the ASD unit including teachers’ planning, quality assuring planning, work sampling and scrutiny, lesson observations, supporting auditing and reporting outcomes, successful or otherwise and planning next steps and future actions

To ensure the continuing development of the curriculum including planning, recording, reporting, assessment for learning and the development of a creative and appropriate curriculum for all pupils in the ASD unit

Duties and responsibilities- Designated Safeguarding Lead

To maintain the implementation of the child protection policy including review and updates

To quality assurer and respond to CPOMS incidents throughout the day ensuring timely responses

To ensure CPOM incidents are regularly actioned and updated and closed when necessary

To keep the vulnerable pupil list up to date and devise support programmes to support pupil well being

To attend Child Protection and Child in Need conferences and meetings providing up to date information and support

Maintain effective communication with parents and colleagues regarding pupil safeguarding and wellbeing needs

To provide training for colleagues to support the safeguarding and well being of pupils

To contribute to the implementation of the ‘staying safe’ De Bohun curriculum

To quality assure and action SENSO (Online monitoring) incident alerts as well as reporting these incidents annually to governors
