At Nansen Primary School we are looking for a committed Assistant Head Teacher – SEND Leader and a Lead DSL to take strategic responsibility for Special Educational Needs, Disabilities (SEND) provision and Safeguarding across our school, including the resource base coming to our school in September. This is a non-class-based leadership role, but will include some teaching responsibilities as required.
As a valued member of our Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will work closely with the Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher, and specialist staff to ensure that every pupil, particularly those with additional needs, thrives in our supportive and inclusive learning environment.
About the Role:
As Assistant Head Teacher – SEND Leader and Lead DSL you will:
Lead and strategically develop SEND provision, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and pastoral care for all pupils with additional needs.
Oversee the forthcoming Resource base- ensuring that pupils with autism receive specialist support and an inclusive, aspirational curriculum.
Keep a strategic overview of our additional specialist enhanced provision hub for children with complex needs.
Be the school’s SENCO, leading on EHCP processes, intervention strategies, and multi-agency working with external specialists such as Speech and Language Therapists.
Provide high-quality training and professional development for staff on inclusive teaching strategies and SEND best practice.
Be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to whole-school improvement and leading safeguarding as a Lead DSL.
Work closely with parents and carers, fostering strong relationships to support pupil progress and well-being.
What We Are Looking For:
We are seeking an inspirational leader with:
Proven experience in SEND leadership, including working as a SENCO or leading on inclusion in a primary setting.
A knowledge and understanding of leading safeguarding across the school with the support of 5 trained Deputy Safeguarding leads.
A track record of raising standards for pupils with SEND, including those with Autism and complex needs.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, and external professionals.
The ability to motivate and develop staff, ensuring a school-wide commitment to inclusive education.
A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
A National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to work towards it.
