The assistant headteacher will:

Uphold public trust in school leadership and maintain high standards of ethics, behaviour and professional conduct

Build positive and respectful relationships across the school community

Serve in the best interests of the school’s pupils

Be forward thinking and able to drive school improvement, alongside the headteacher.


  • Qualified teacher status
  • Degree
  • Professional development in preparation for a leadership role
  • SENCo award (desirable)

Leadership

  • Leadership and management experience in a school
  • Teaching experience
  • Involvement in school self-evaluation and development planning
  • Line management experience
  • Demonstrable experience of successful line management and staff development
  • Experience of implementing change and making an impact
  • Experience of leading a key subject area

Experience as a SENCo

Skills and Knowledge

  • Understanding of high-quality teaching, and the ability to model this for others and support others to improve
  • Understanding of school finances
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate a vision and inspire others
  • Ability to build effective working relationships

Up to date knowledge of research including Science of Learning

Personal qualities

  • A commitment to getting the best outcomes for all pupils and promoting the ethos and values of the school
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times

Commitment to safeguarding and equality, ensuring that personal beliefs are not expressed in ways that exploit the position

Coton-in-the-Elms C of E Primary School is a beautiful village school with approximately 140 pupils on roll, who are superbly behaved. Since September 2023 there has been a new leadership team in place, who have driven school improvement forwards and continued to ensure there is excellent provision for all its pupils. Our recent OFTSED inspection in June 2023 found the school to be good and outstanding for Personal Development. An accolade we are all incredibly proud of. We have a real commitment to our children, our staff and our community, and a focus on achieving the best that we can in all that we do, both inside the classroom and beyond. Wellbeing of staff and pupils is paramount and there is a Wellbeing offer for staff too in recognition of their dedication to the profession.

The school has experienced mentors, who will support new staff and offer ongoing professional development.
