CORE EDUCATION TRUST
CORE Education Trust is a values-driven organisation rich in cultural and social diversity. Responsible for four academies in Birmingham, the Trust was set up to innovate through adversity and challenge the conventional boundaries of what is possible for our students. Motivated and inspired by the success of all our people, our ambition goes beyond textbooks and whiteboards; we thrive on the value and potential of difference.

The Assistant Headteacher as Trust Director of Creative Arts is an exceptional new opportunity, marking the beginning of an ambitious Trust wide agenda to put creativity at the centre of our curriculum offer. The role will involve engaging with all four schools in the Trust with overall responsibility for the delivery of Creative Arts. The role also involves leading our national award-winning commemorative arts project, Echo Eternal and developing our in-house theatre company and choir.

Drawing students from across the Trust, the new non-selective Creative Arts Faculty will deliver a wide range of subjects including, but not limited to; technical arts (engineering, music productions, jewellery making); visual arts (art, textiles); performing arts (drama, dance, music).

This will be more than a teaching faculty. The debate about diversity, inclusion and representation in the creative industries is passionate and sincere, but we have decided to stop talking about it. Instead, we are investing in this new faculty to give our students access to the creative industries as an entitlement. Our new faculty will be a positive step in removing barriers and will inspire tangible, long-term societal change.

As the Founding Director of this exciting new enterprise, you will be supported by our CEO, Executive Team, Associate Artistic Director, Fela Lufadeju and our national and regional arts partners to shape a distinctive new offer, which will confront the stereotypes of the Creative Arts. You will lead a large, talented team of practitioners and grow that team to make it the best of its kind.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Our academies are places of possibility and we never underestimate the impact inspirational staff can have on the life chances of our students. We are looking for an exceptional practitioner with the ambition to break new ground with what is possible within the Creative Arts in the broadest sense. The post holder will be passionate about promoting the importance of STEAM in education and will be highly creative and dynamic in their implementation of a curriculum offer to excite and motivate our students.

The successful candidate will lead on several performance projects, including the award-winning project: Echo Eternal. They will also continue to develop our Trust choir ‘COREus’ and supervise the inception of our proposed new Trust Theatre Company
You will be uncompromisingly dedicated and committed to widening access and opportunities and to drive the profile of our work throughout the Birmingham arts community, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, and challenging current narratives. You will also continue to develop our arts partnerships in Liverpool, Coventry and London, as well as finding new partners even further afield.

You will drive the standards, expectations and aspirations of staff and students alike to ensure that there is regular success and a sense of progression. You must be a strong role-model for staff and students and be able demonstrate a clear understanding of the value of providing our students with a broad educational experience, where high standards are supported by a rich variety of educational experiences in and outside the classroom.

WHAT WE OFFER
The successful candidate will be joining a vibrant learning community with national award-winning credentials. The Trust works collaboratively with leaders to ensure our CORE Values are promoted, embodied and celebrated by all the staff and children in our schools. Our CEO has personally led the inception of this new faculty so the post holder will enjoy significant levels of direct support from him, the Board of Trustees and the Executive Team. You will:

• Be given the opportunity to engage with cross-trust activities that connect students and staff to their wider family of schools/peers across the city.
• Be provided with a provision of support and training to foster a positive culture of wellbeing for all students and staff.

We place a strong emphasis on supporting and encouraging personal
development, which includes:

• A CPD strategy that is designed to support the specific career aspirations of all staff.
• Access to experienced mentors and networks of support.

This is an exciting time to join our Trust. We are about to embark on the next phase of our evolution as an outward facing, forward thinking family of schools guided by a vision underpinned by optimism, ambition, and oneness. This new role will be at the centre of that vision.

Commitment to safeguarding

CORE Education Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Services) Check is required for all successful applicants.

CORE Education Trust is committed to promoting equality, challenging discrimination, and developing community cohesion. We welcome applications from all sections of the community. We are an Equal Opportunities and Living Wage employer.
