Assistant Headteacher - Behaviour and Attitudes job summary

The role of Assistant Headteacher (Behaviour) is a crucial one and will add to the existing hard working and forward thinking SLT. The successful candidate will be an excellent practitioner and will play a significant past in ensuring that BBEC continues to improve at an accelerated and sustainable rate.
BBEC needs an Assistant Headteacher with a track record of impactful strategic leadership, an ability to demonstrate school improvement and a resilience to deal with the challenges of school strategic leadership in this context.
We are looking for an excellent leader; someone who has an aptitude for dealing with students and teachers in a professional manner, modelling behaviours for their team and all staff and students. The successful candidate will be part of a wider team which will further develop the culture and ethos of the school.
The successful candidate will also work alongside senior colleagues; Senior Deputy Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher, Heads of Year and Pastoral Managers, who all lead work on an ethos of excellent behaviour and attitudes in school.
As a school leader the successful candidate will be inspiring and deliberately focused on strategies which enable and enhance improvements in the behaviour of our students and quality of education provided by the school. As with all senior leaders, the candidate appointed will need to be an active participant in all areas of school leadership, improvement and strategic discussion, able to show flexibility and commitment and model the qualities and behaviour of a school leader.

They will be directly responsible for:
- Detailed and regular quality assurance procedures for students in both internal and external Alternative Provision
- The management and support of student behaviour across the school, including the development and implementation of the whole school Positive Attitude to Learning Policy, under the direction of the Deputy Headteacher
- Rigorous monitoring of rewards and sanctions, specifically bullying logs, protected characteristics and actions to prevent discrimination
- Line management of a team of pastoral managers and/or Heads of Year
- Planning and monitoring the attendance of staff for the duty rota at break and lunch time to ensure all students are safe at all times
- Responding appropriately and swiftly to day to day issues around behaviour.
- Taking responsibility for creating clear plans for reintegration following suspension
- Keeping abreast of national research and data in the area of responsibility
BEHAVIOUR AND ATTITUDES TEAM
There is a comprehensive team of senior staff who work within the Behaviour and Attitudes to learning team. The Senior Deputy Head teacher has overarching responsibility for the behaviour and attitudes to learning of all students within BBEC. The whole team shares responsibility for ensuring that systems and procedures keep all our students safe and behaving well.
The successful candidate will complement the current team by having responsibility for the development and implementation of the whole school Positive Attitude to Learning Policy, under the direction of the Senior Deputy Headteacher. There will be a need for rigorous monitoring of rewards and sanctions, specifically bullying logs, protected characteristics and actions to prevent discrimination. They will also have accountability for and lead on the quality assurance for students accessing internal and external Alternative Provision.
The Assistant Headteacher will have line management responsibilities within the Pastoral Team, but will also support all aspects of school improvement in terms of Quality of Education and Personal Development and Welfare.
The large pastoral manager team is overseen by the Lead Pastoral Manager and each year group has a dedicated non-teaching pastoral manager attached to them. There is also a Head of Year for each year group to support with the comprehensive pastoral care of our students. The successful candidate will support the pastoral team by responding appropriately and swiftly to day to day issues around behaviour and also planning and monitoring the attendance of staff for the duty rota at break and lunch time to ensure all students are safe at all times.
Alongside the pastoral team BBEC has a large welfare team, which incorporates the Child Protection and Safeguarding specialists. There are five dedicated welfare staff who ensure students are happy and safe at all times.
We have a range of provisions and interventions available to support all students including our Isolation Unit and our onsite alternative provisions Connect (KS3) and Bridge (KS4) which are facilities to support students with social and emotional difficulties.
