Assistant Headteacher job summary

As Assistant Headteacher, you will work with the Headteacher and all stakeholders to promote a love of learning within our supportive community to provide pupils with the most enriching school experience we can offer.

As Assistant Headteacher you will be required to:

  • Support the Headteacher in the performance of their duties by assisting the Headteacher in the leadership and management of school affairs. 

  • As part of the Senior Leadership Team, lead and manage whole school policy, its implementation and evaluation.

  • Support the management and development of the school curriculum, leadership, learning and teaching in order to promote exceptional educational outcomes and progress.

  • Lead in collaborating in partnership with the wider community, including families, whilst maintaining professional boundaries 

  • Nurture and value the children, promoting their safety, wellbeing and learning

  • Have a strong vision and ethos that supports our values and culture

  • Be creative, enthusiastic and resourceful with a passion for teaching and learning

  • Have a strong commitment to inclusion with high expectations for all learners

  • Be an outstanding classroom practitioner with the ability to inspire children to learn

  • Have a ‘can-do’ approach to the challenges of leadership

  • Be able to support and challenge in equal measure 

  • Be relentless in the pursuit of excellence

  • Uphold the teacher's national standards and be an exceptional role model


Salary for this post will be on the Leadership Scale 7-10 depending on experience and current salary. This is a permanent position.

This post has a minimum requirement of 2 references which must be your current or most recent employer. Applicants must have at least 5 years’ teaching experience and some experience of a middle leadership role.
