Assistant Headteacher: Coaching and Development

Monk’s Walk is a good school which seeks to appoint an assistant headteacher to help raise standards even further. The focus of this exciting post is the improvement of teaching and learning through the provision of effective and innovative staff development. The successful candidate will also act as the professional tutor in the school with responsibility for trainee teachers and NQTs. The post holder will also line manage a number of heads of department. Your teaching subject is immaterial but you should be an excellent practitioner who knows how to help others improve their practice.

• Being a great teacher, resulting in good outcomes for learners
• Leading a team which produces good outcomes
• Monitoring the work of others and developing others into better teachers and/or support staff
• Introducing and leading strategies that make a difference
• Handling difficult situations

3. Professional Knowledge and Understanding

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

• Keeping students safe in the school context
• Emotional intelligence and how to inspire others
• The strategic leadership of change, especially how to bring plans to fruition
• The strategic leadership and management of school improvement/development
