Assistant Headteacher / Director of Sixth Form job summary

Leading an Outstanding Sixth Form

This role is the perfect opportunity for a highly qualified professional who is caring, strategic, rigorous and creative. This is a chance to join our highly experienced Senior Leadership Team, with a proven track record of success at the highest levels in education, to shape and implement our whole school strategy. We would welcome applications from experienced middle leaders and established senior leaders who wish to seize this opportunity to work with and develop some of the brightest young minds in the country. This year, sixteen of our students went to either Cambridge or Oxford and 146 went to Russell Group universities. Our first student went to Harvard in 2020. If you are a student centred practitioner, a teacher with a deep interest in pedagogy and a leader who can develop and inspire the staff around them, you should consider applying for this role.

Our School

Wallington County Grammar School is a selective state school situated in outer London. We admit boys into Year 7 and run a mixed Sixth Form. We were judged 'outstanding' in all five categories by Ofsted in January 2017 , including in 16-19 Study Provision, and our students achieve grades within the top two percent of schools in the country at A Level. We place a huge emphasis on the wider education of our students through our co-curriculum which features a vibrant house system that is led by our Sixth Form students. We run a huge range of clubs and societies, many of which are also student led, which are complemented by a Sixth Form enrichment curriculum that is delivered on Wednesday afternoons. Alongside this, all Sixth Form students have dedicated wellbeing lessons and many choose to take the Extended Project Qualification. Ultimately, our aim is to develop exceptionally well rounded individuals with the knowledge, skills and breadth of experience needed to play leading roles in governments, public organisations, multinational companies and charities.

Advantages of working in Wallington County Grammar School include:

➢ working with highly intelligent and committed young men and women;
➢ working alongside an established and energetic senior leadership team with an excellent record of success;
➢ opportunities for rapid promotion both within the school and the wider Folio Trust;
➢ a firm commitment to staff wellbeing and work life balance;
➢ amenities and benefits including priority entry for children of staff, onsite parking, the Ride to Work Scheme, an Employee Assistance Programme and a School gym;
➢ a leafy setting on the edge of the beautiful Beddington Park with outer London pay and easy access to both central London and the Surrey countryside;

Wallington County Grammar School is one of the most successful schools in the country. Our motto is Per Ardua ad Summa, Through Difficulties to the Heights, which our exceptional students exemplify each and every day. Their success and that of our staff has been recognised by Ofsted, grading the school ‘outstanding’ in all areas, and more recently by the Secretary of State for Education who presented the school with the 2019 Evening Standard Award for School Achievement. This success is born from a strong set of values centred around compassion for one another, commitment to all we do, courage in facing life’s many challenges and creativity to succeed in a global 21st century society.

We are a highly selective school, admitting 150 young men from across London and the South East into Year 7 and admitting young women into the Sixth Form. We have a well balanced, academic curriculum centred around developing scholarship and creativity which, when combined with innovative and forward thinking pedagogy, makes Wallington County Grammar School an extremely stimulating place to work.
