What skills and experience we're looking for

Grace Owen Nursery School is looking for an inspirational Assistant Headteacher to join our team from September 2024. This appointment will enable the post holder to take up a key leadership role in school and be involved in progressing the future leadership structure across the city’s two nursery schools, that currently work in collaboration. The successful candidate will also hold SENDCo responsibilities.

We are looking for a creative practitioner, with a passion for early years and working closely with families, staff and other professionals. The capacity to inspire, support and challenge is essential and a good sense of humour desirable.

What the school offers its staff

  • A unique and stimulating environment
  • A supportive and dedicated staff team
  • Opportunities to work in close partnership with families and other colleagues
  • Ongoing CPD and career development
  • Links to SSELP schools, training and networks

Further details about the role

We work in close partnership with families in order to build strong attachments with our children. We value their well-being and involvement in their learning and encourage their creativity across the curriculum, both inside and outdoors. We place a high emphasis on communication, language and thinking skills and we believe in feeding children’s curiosity. We work hard to build friendships, foster independence and self-confidence and promote life-long learning skills. Grace Owen is an inclusive setting where everyone is welcome and valued. We are a Local Authority Centre of Excellence for SEND.

We are a forward-thinking school and we seek out innovative approaches to enrich our successful and established routine and curriculum. For example, we are currently working with Sheffield Hallam University on a project around relationships, having already researched and embedded the development of children’s language and thinking skills through the use of traditional tales, using the TWiTCH approach.

Commitment to safeguarding

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check
