We are looking for an individual with energy, enthusiasm and an absolute dedication to leading the success, outcomes, day-to-day experience and future destinations of our Sixth Form Students.
The successful candidate will help shape the totality of the Sixth Form experience that our students receive; curriculum provision, teaching and learning, extra-curricular opportunities, health and wellbeing. You will be supported by a Deputy Headteacher and other members of the senior leadership team with this but will be expected to bring your own ideas, expertise and specialism. S/he will be a full member of the school’s SLT and will be expected to play a full part in SLT’s collective responsibility for the leadership of school quality and provision.
Applications must demonstrate, with evidence, how you meet the person specification and how your experience has equipped you to take on the role set out in the job description.
Blue Coat has a strong track record for high achievement and growing teachers and leaders. We will provide the opportunity for you to fulfil your ambitions and potential in a dynamic and supportive environment. This is a fabulous opportunity for an experienced teacher wishing to develop in an outstanding school.
The Blue Coat School:
• was judged to be outstanding in all areas by OFSTED 2011-12
• has a record of attainment and achievement at GCSE which is consistently significantly above national average
• has a large, thriving and oversubscribed Sixth Form
• has a happy, positive ethos, with clear expectations and boundaries: students enjoy their learning and are eager to do their best
• is located in Oldham town centre with excellent transport links to Manchester / South Manchester e.g. 30 mins travel time by either car or metro link
The Blue Coat School is part of the Cranmer Education Trust, a growing community of multi faith, multi-talented schools across North East Manchester. St Anne’s Academy joined the Trust in March 2021 and we are looking forward to opening The Brian Clarke Church of England Academy in September 2022. Mayfield Primary School and East Crompton St George’s Primary School are both also part of the Cranmer Education Trust, and Blue Coat has also become the lead school of the Oldham and Tameside Teaching School Hub.
We work collaboratively, share good practice and have a Trust-wide approach to development. All schools are partners in Manchester Nexus, our SCITT, which operates out of Blue Coat. All schools bring their expertise to share. We need to make sure we have the right people in the right place doing the job that is needed to build excellent provision for our children and young people. Staff are supported and developed professionally to make sure they can do that and are valued and recognised for their work.

We are very proud of our school, which attracts students from across Greater Manchester and beyond. It first opened in 1834. Our founder, Thomas Henshaw, was a committed Anglican who left a bequest to fund a school which would provide education for the orphaned boys of the parish.
From these humble beginnings, the Blue Coat School has become one of the biggest and most successful schools in the country. The school has a national reputation for high quality teaching and learning, pastoral care, consistently excellent examination results and outstanding progress. Our most recent OFSTED inspection in 2011/2 judged the school to be outstanding in every category. As a result, Blue Coat has been designated a National Teaching School which means that we work with schools nationally and locally to develop the very best educational provision. Blue Coat is grounded in tradition and history, and is evolving and forward looking. Our historic campus has been restored and developed extensively; our students enjoy picnic lunches in front of a Grade II listed building but their learning takes place in superb 21st century classrooms, laboratories and studios.
Blue Coat is dedicated to serving young people, to enable them to become everything they can be and everything that they are meant to be. We are a Church of England school that welcomes members of other Christian denominations, and of other faiths.
Our Anglican beliefs, values and worship are at the core of our life together in school.
