Toll Bar Primary School are delighted to be in a position to offer a suitably qualified and experience teacher with extensive knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Inclusion the role of Assistant Head/Inclusion Manager.

We are looking for a candidate with the drive, passion and commitment to provide high quality and inclusive SEN provision across Toll Bar Primary School. In return we would be able to provide extensive career progression for the right candidate.

We are looking for a Senior Leader to help move the school from its current Requires Improvement Judgement to Good within the next 18 months.

A recent OFSTED HMI (March 2024) monitoring visit identified that leadership were taking the appropriate action to move the school forward towards a good.

The role of Assistant Head/Inclusion Manager will provide an exciting challenge where the right candidate can make a significant difference to the pupils’ lives at Toll Bar Primary School. We are looking for the person who will be the champion for inclusion pushing this forward into all aspects of the school’s life.

Our Assistant Head/Inclusion Manager must be an excellent teacher able to demonstrate strong inclusive and adaptive practice. They will be able to provide ongoing support to a receptive team of teacher and support staff all focused on developing strong outcomes for of pupils. Experience of teaching across either KS1 and/ or Lower KS2 or a willingness to teach in one of these classes would be essential.

SEN practice at Toll Bar Primary School has been seen as effective in both our last two recent inspections and we are now in a position to progress this practice further.

Job description

As part of the Leadership Team, the responsibility of the Inclusion Leader is considerable

and the expectations of their performance will be high.

Aims

  • To support the Headteacher in creating, developing and evaluating the aims of the school in partnership with pupils, staff, governors and parents
  • To foster the inclusion of all children regardless of gender, race or religion
  • To manage and coordinate provision for children with special educational needs
  • To help the Headteacher with operational management of a key area of school – day to day cover, directing staff, line management and assisting with performance management of staff.

Key Assistant Head Leadership Responsibilities

  • To report to/deputise effectively for the Headteacher when required
  • To support and contribute to the school’s system for the review and evaluation of teaching

and learning and school improvement planning

  • To contribute to the pastoral care and general behaviour of the school
  • To display a high standard of professional behaviour and integrity at all times
  • To develop a positive, supportive ethos for academic and social learning
  • To keep abreast of local and national educational initiatives and cutting edge educational

thinking through own professional development

Inclusion Leader Responsibilities

  • To oversee the day to day operation of the school’s SEN/Inclusion policy and encourage all

members of staff to recognize and fulfil their statutory responsibilities towards pupils with SEN

and additional needs

  • To maintain the list of SEN and supported pupils and to oversee their records.
  • To review all EHCP’s as & when required
  • To carry out and coordinate diagnostic assessments of students
  • To liaise with parents of children with SEN
  • To liaise with external services including the Educational Psychologist, Inclusive Education Advisory Team, Speech and Language Therapist, School Nurse, Educational Welfare Officer, The Primary Project, Art Therapy Provision, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, voluntary bodies and other support agencies
  • To keep up to date and disseminate information on matters related to SEN/Inclusion to all members of staff
  • To ensure that all students, regardless of gender, religion, ethnic background and special educational needs participate as fully as possible in the life of the school and that social inclusion takes place
  • Work as a class teacher to ensure a high standard of education provision for pupils and assist the Head teacher to support the Governing Body in fulfilling its responsibilities in accordance with national legislation
  • To be an excellent classroom practitioner and lead by example at all times
  • To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school.
  • Work with colleagues with to monitor children’s progress and attainment and continue to raise standards.
  • Be responsible for leading and co-ordinating curriculum development, planning, teaching and learning within the SENCO & Inclusion role.
  • Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school
  • Develop effective professional relationships with all key stakeholders including colleagues/parents/partners/external bodies and the wider community.
  • Demonstrate consistent high standards of personal and professional conduct, acting within the statutory frameworks which set out their professional duties and responsibilities.
  • Develop capacity through CPD, and be an effective member of a strong professional team
  • Work together with colleagues to promote and sustain an effective teaching practice that is focused on the rigorous implementation of improvement plans
  • Effectively develop strategies for improving teaching, seeking out and modelling best practice, monitoring the quality of teaching and learning and putting in place mechanisms to constantly improve Special Educational Needs
  • Ensure that a consistent approach to policies and procedures is adhered to
  • To focus on improving teaching and learning to pursue excellence for the school.
