What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint an inspirational Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion to join the Senior Leadership Team to help us take the next step in our journey.

Newmarket Academy is part of Unity Schools Partnership a forward-thinking academy trust of 33 schools (10 secondary). We value our people and we have developed a strong culture of collaboration and best practice. Unity Schools Partnership celebrates both professional development and career progression. The Teaching School which is part of Unity will support the successful candidate in this post and their future career.

Why do you want to be our Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion at Newmarket Academy? It’s an opportunity to shape the direction and focus of the school. As the Assistant Headteacher Inclusion, you will champion what is best for those who need the most support. As a member of the SLT you will make a vital contribution to our school improvement journey. You will ensure that all staff have the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to provide high quality teaching and learning opportunities for all pupils.

You will:

  • Have a relentless drive to improve the outcomes for all students at the Academy;
  • Be uncompromising about your approach to inclusion and learning for all students;
  • Able to manage, coach and mentor a team of individuals in order to get the best out of every staff member;
  • Understand how to be strategic and meet the aims and purposes of wider academy improvement objectives;
  • We would prefer candidates to have the National Award for SEN Co-ordinator; however, we would support candidates working towards this award;
  • Effectively articulate the inclusion and SEND vision for the school;
  • Provide regular and decisive updates relating to inclusion and SEND to relevant stakeholders;
  • Lead on and manage specific interventions pertaining to students including those with SEND;
  • Be an active member of the school safeguarding team;
  • Be an active part of the Senior Leadership Team and Trust SENDCo network;
  • Be part of the senior leadership team working on teaching and learning priorities across the Academy.

What the school offers its staff

In return we will offer:

  • CPD required to be able to fulfil the role;
  • Newly refurbished learning spaces with state-of-the-art interactive whiteboards and sound systems;
  • A supportive and friendly working environment with well established ‘wellbeing’ programs;
  • An excellent programme of induction into the academy with supportive and dynamic staff; • Wellbeing day each academic year;
  • Access to the training and professional development programmes of the Teaching and research schools in the Trust

Commitment to safeguarding

Unity Schools Partnership is committed to safer recruitment, equal opportunities, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.
