You will lead the development of a safe and stimulating environment, where all pupils can achieve and have mutual respect. Be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SEND policy and coordination of specific provision to support individual students with SEND or a disability
You will lead on:
- Implementation of inclusive practices in curriculum planning and resourcing, which supports the regular review of the learning environment, daily routines, activities and social interactions to enable pupils of all abilities and backgrounds to participate at an appropriate level in the life of the school
- Providing professional support and information to staff, parents and other agencies on the inclusion of every child, with reference to the school’s Inclusion police
- Ensuring that all pupils with additional needs make accelerated progress in their learning and achieve to the very best of their ability.
- Determining the strategic development of special educational needs (SEND) policy and provision in the school.
- Monitoring and supporting the Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) application process.
- Identifying, assessing and reviewing SEND, collecting and interpreting specialist assessment data
- Tracking and responding to the outcomes for SEND pupils, identifying resources to meet the needs and advising the SLT on the priorities and expenditure.
- Training, support and appraisal of Teaching Assistants, and ensure effective provision of SEND support staff, manage annual reviews and EHCP assessment requests
While the Assistant Headteacher will oversee provision for students with SEND or a disability, class teachers will be responsible for the day-to-day education and support of students within their classrooms.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will also:
- Have consistently high expectations, lead by example and promote the school’s inclusive values and aims.
- Contribute to the strategic development and direction of the school in line with the School Development Plan priorities.
- Ensure that the school carries its statutory responsibilities.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the STPCD.
About You
- Hold Qualified Teacher Stats and the National SENDCo Award or will to complete the programme.
- Have secure knowledge of the relevant subject(s) and curriculum areas, foster and maintain pupils’ interest in the subject, and address misunderstandings.
- Experience of leading SEND provision.
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in the subject and curriculum areas and promote the value of scholarship.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, motivate, inspire, and support colleagues.
- Passionate about Inclusion and life chances for all children.
