Overall Summary

Thank you for considering applying for our vacancy for Assistant Headteacher (maternity cover).   We are looking for a passionate and dynamic Assistant Head with excellent classroom practice and proven leadership experience to join our supportive and friendly team.  

The successful applicant will work in partnership with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to promote continuous improvement in all areas of practice and will be:

  •         An exemplary practitioner with a love of learning and high expectations of children’s learning attainment and behaviour.
  •         A dynamic leader with proven ability to inspire and support colleagues.
  •         Able to communicate effectively with pupils, staff, parents and the wider community.
  •         Able to lead a team by example with a clear understanding of what constitutes outstanding teaching and   learning and be able to communicate this to the whole school community

About the school

We are a vibrant, successful and friendly primary school for children between 4 – 11 years with 285 pupils on roll. Located in the village of Great Brickhill, we are 5 miles from Milton Keynes, and 4 miles from Leighton Buzzard so we have good accessibility. Our children are a delight to teach and we are determined for them to flourish academically and socially, no matter what their starting points.

Essential Experience:

  • ·         Qualified teacher status
  • ·         A proven record in managing and promoting curriculum development
  • ·         Is an outstanding class teacher, demonstrating high quality classroom practice, organisation and display.
  • ·         Teaching experience in more than one establishment and across the primary age range
  • ·         Experience as a member of the senior Leadership Team
  • ·         Recent participation in a range of relevant in-service training

 

Knowledge and Understanding of:

  • ·         A passion for a creative curriculum.
  • ·         A clear understanding of the whole primary curriculum. An understanding of the principles of Assessment for Learning and how these contribute to raising pupil achievement
  • ·         Current educational issues and their implications for primary schools
  • ·         The importance of school self-evaluation leading to school improvement, ensuring an impact on standards, including the use of data
  • ·         The need for a creative learning environment that supports a ‘learning journey’ for pupils.
  • ·         Committed to implementing and following through a rigorous and robust set of policies and procedures designed to safeguard children.
  • ·         Be committed to equal opportunities.
  • ·         Strategies to value pupil involvement and develop responsibilities in school
  • ·         Strategies to developing excellent pupil behaviour
  • ·         Supportive of, and involved in, extracurricular activities

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • ·         To work cooperatively and effectively with the Headteacher and Governors to create and secure commitment to a clear vision for an effective and improving school
  • ·         To work cooperatively with partner organisations
  • ·         To lead and manage people to work effectively towards common goals
  • ·         How to use comparative data, together with information about pupils’ prior attainment, to establish benchmarks and set targets for improvement
  • ·         Proven ICT capability- Its application to learning, administration and use effectively to communicate
  • ·         Prioritise and manage own time effectively, work under pressure and to deadlines
  • ·         To maintain and develop good relationships with all stakeholders
