North Durham Academy is seeking to appoint an outstanding and ambitious Assistant Headteacher (Mathematics) to join our senior leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and inspirational leader to drive excellence in mathematics teaching and learning while contributing to the strategic leadership of the whole school.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the vision for mathematics across the school, raising standards of attainment, and ensuring that all students develop strong numeracy and problem-solving skills that prepare them for future success. They will also take on an additional school-wide leadership responsibility (to be determined depending on experience and interest).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Mathematics department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Lead the development and implementation of an ambitious mathematics curriculum.
  • Use data effectively to monitor student progress and drive improvement in outcomes.
  • Support and develop teaching staff through coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the Senior Leadership Team to support whole-school improvement priorities.
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, inclusion, and achievement for all students.

The Ideal Candidate Will

  • Be an experienced and highly effective teacher of mathematics with a proven track record of raising attainment.
  • Have successful middle or senior leadership experience in a secondary school.
  • Demonstrate the ability to inspire and lead staff to deliver outstanding outcomes.
  • Have strong analytical skills and experience using assessment data to inform practice.
  • Be committed to continuous school improvement and professional development.
