ASSISTANT HEADTEACHER (PASTORAL) – required for January 2023

We would like to welcome applications for the position of Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral) at Westwood College. Located in Leek in the attractive Staffordshire Moorlands, this is an exciting opportunity for someone with energy and vision to join this thriving school and to help lead it to further success.

Westwood College is a 13-19 High School in Leek and is one of the three founding members of the Talentum Learning Multi academy Trust.

The successful applicant will have the drive and personality to build on the considerable progress made by the school and be prepared to meet the challenge of becoming one of a group of outstanding schools. Self-motivated and ambitious, you will help secure the vison of the school, helping to further develop a culture of high expectations and opportunity.

You will bring a strong record of supporting school improvement and will actively embrace working closely and collaboratively with the governors, staff and students and the wider community to reinforce the school’s place in providing a truly outstanding resource for the lifelong learning opportunities of students and families across the town.

Westwood College is a mixed, non-denominational academy for students aged 13-19. Located in Leek, a market town in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands, it has roughly 800 students.

Set in the grounds of a stunning 17th century manor house, Westwood College is part of the Talentum Learning Trust. Outcomes for students at Westwood College are strong. In 2019 at Level 2, 74% of students achieved English and Mathematics at grade 4 or above and 45% at grade 5 or above.

Following their short inspection in February 2019, Ofsted recognised Westwood College as a ‘welcoming, friendly school. Pupils and sixth-form students are happy here because they say that they are treated as adults and feel their voices are heard. They develop a strong sense of equality and fairness.’ Teaching was noted as being ‘engaging and creative in many subject areas, which motivates most students to work hard and achieve well. The quality of students’ work in many cases is extremely high.’
