Assistant Headteacher Progress and Achievement KS4 job summary

KEY PURPOSE OF THE JOB

1. To be a member of the Senior Leadership Team of the school and to play a full role within this Team in the development of the vision and strategic planning of the whole school.
2. To provide strong leadership, management and innovative practice in ensuring that all students of the school achieve, demonstrate the highest standards of behaviour and are safe and confident.
3. Develop the Leadership Capacity of the school.
4. Develop student progress and achievement across Key Stage 3 and 4, set appropriate targets for subject areas, staff and students; and ensure that effective intervention strategies to address underachieving cohorts and individuals are implemented.
5. To develop and implement effective marking and assessment processes and procedures to effectively track and monitor student progress and achievement.
6. To develop effective teaching and learning strategies to optimise all student learning.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

POST PURPOSE: Assistant Head Teacher & Head of Progress & Achievement Strategic Leadership

1. Lead the above purpose across Key Stage 3 and 4 at either Longbridge or Sandringham campus.
2. Strategic Leader for specific departments to be agreed on an annual basis.
3. Overall responsibility for assigned cohorts of students which would then enable us to re-assign responsibilities as and when the need arises

Key-Stage Responsibilities

1. Develop, monitor and review the school curriculum to meet SIP targets and priorities including meeting the needs of the SEND and More Able Students.
2. Ensuring that the curriculum offer is appropriate and regularly reviewed and monitored by Subject Leaders and Post-holders.
3. Leadership of the implementation of a flexible and integrated curriculum, ensuring smooth transition between key stages and ensuring students are identified for an appropriate curriculum provision at the earliest opportunity.
4. Responsible for the structure and implementation of rigorous Quality Assurance processes within the Key Stage.
5. Ensure that student progress and attainment is monitored within each Key Stage and that Subject Leaders, Post-holders and individual subject staff implement effective strategies to address underachievement.
6. Responsible for the Appraisal process within the specified line management subject areas.
7. Responsible for attaining the percentage Good+ lessons as per the SIP targets within each Key Stage.
8. Develop the capacity for strong and devolved leadership, within each Key Stage.

Monitoring and Evaluation

1. Students’ academic, emotional and social progress.
2. Building a positive relationship and reputation with parents, pupils and the local community.
3. Standards of behaviour across each Key Stage.
4. Responsible for Key Stage 3 and 4 Student Outcomes and QA elements of the SIP.
5. Provide regular reports to SLT and Governors on the development of the above.
6. In the above, provide evidence of impact for all key elements.

External Agency Links

1. Responsible for any External Agency collaboration and co-operation as may be appropriate eg. PIXL.

General

1. Promote compliance with appropriate regulations, legislation, Health and Safety regulations and the School’s Equality policy.
2. Attend meetings and working groups etc as required, including Governors Meetings and meetings called by external partners.
3. Any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Head Teacher.

POST PURPOSE: Teaching Post

• Under the reasonable direction of the Head Teacher, carry out the professional duties of a school teacher as set out in the current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD).
• To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students and to support a designated curriculum area as appropriate.
• To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a teacher.
• To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.
• To contribute to raising standards of student attainment.
• To share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.

TEACHING
• To teach students according to their educational needs, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the student in school and elsewhere.
• To assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of students and to keep such records as are required.
• To provide, or contribute to, oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students and groups of students.
• To ensure that ICT, Literacy, Numeracy and school subject specialism(s) are reflected in the teaching/learning experience of students.
• To undertake a designated programme of teaching.
• To ensure a high quality learning experience for students which meets internal and external quality standards.
• To prepare and update subject materials.
• To use a variety of delivery methods which will stimulate learning appropriate to student needs and demands of the syllabus.
• To maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures, and to encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework.
• To undertake assessment of students as requested by external examination bodies, departmental and school procedures.
• To mark, grade and give written/verbal and diagnostic feedback as required.

OPERATIONAL/STRATEGIC PLANNING
• To assist in the development of appropriate syllabi, resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies in the Curriculum Area and Department.
• To contribute to the Curriculum Area and department’s development plan and its implementation.
• To plan and prepare courses and lessons.
• To contribute to the whole school’s planning activities.

CURRICULUM PROVISION
• To assist the Head of Department and the Senior Deputy Head Teacher, to ensure that the curriculum area
provides a range of teaching which complements the school’s strategic objectives.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
• To assist in the process of curriculum development and change so as to ensure the continued relevance to the needs of students, examining and awarding bodies and the school’s Mission and Strategic Objectives.

STAFFING
• To take part in the school’s staff development programme by participating in arrangements for further training and professional development.
• To continue personal development in the relevant areas including subject knowledge and teaching methods.
• To engage actively in the Appraisal Review process.
• To ensure the effective/efficient deployment of classroom support.
• To work as a member of a designated team and to contribute positively to effective working relations within the school.

QUALITY ASSURANCE
• To help to implement school quality procedures and to adhere to those.
• To contribute to the process of monitoring and evaluation of the curriculum area/department in line with agreed school procedures, including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria.
• To seek/implement modification and improvement where required.
• To review from time to time methods of teaching and programmes of work.
• To take part, as may be required in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the school.

MANAGEMENT INFORMATION
• To maintain appropriate records and to provide relevant accurate and up-to-date information for MIS, registers, etc.
• To complete the relevant documentation to assist in the tracking of students.
• To track student progress and use information to inform teaching and learning.

COMMUNICATIONS & LIAISON
• To communicate effectively with the parents of students as appropriate.
• Where appropriate, to communicate and co-operate with persons or bodies outside the school.
• To follow agreed policies for communications in the school.
• To take part in liaison activities such as parents’ evenings, review days and liaison events with partner schools.
• To contribute to the development of effective subject links with external agencies.

MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES
• To contribute to the process of the ordering and allocation of equipment and materials.
• To assist the Head of Department to identify resource needs and to contribute to the efficient/effective use of physical resources.
• To co-operate with other staff to ensure a sharing and effective usage of resources to the benefit of the School, department and the students.

PASTORAL SYSTEM
• To be a Tutor to an assigned group of students.
• To promote the general progress and well-being of individual students.
• To liaise with a Pastoral Leader to ensure the implementation of the school’s Pastoral System.
• To register students, accompany them to assemblies, encourage their full attendance at all lessons and their
participation in other aspects of school life.
• To evaluate and monitor the progress of students and keep up-to-date student records as may be required.
• To contribute to the preparation of action plans and progress files and other reports.
• To alert the appropriate staff to problems experienced by students and to make recommendations as to how
these may be resolved.
• To communicate as appropriate, with the parents of students and with persons or bodies outside the school
concerned with the welfare of individual students, after consultation with the appropriate staff.
• To apply the Behaviour Management systems so that effective learning can take place.

HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
• To ensure staff know the current legal requirements, national policies and guidance on the safeguarding and promotion of the well-being of children and young people.
• To ensure staff know the local arrangements concerning the safeguarding of children and young people and know how to identify potential child abuse or neglect and follow safeguarding procedures.
• To ensure staff know how to identify and support children and young people whose progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to colleagues for specialist support.

SCHOOL ETHOS
• To play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive ethos and vision, ‘Ours’ is a school where everyone gives and expects the best and everyone can say, “I belong” and to encourage and ensure staff and students to follow this example.
• Promote actively the school’s corporate policies.
