Assistant Headteacher - Science and STEM job summary
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Assistant Headteacher who is forward-thinking and a highly motivated professional to join our Senior Leadership Team with strategic leadership of Science and our STEM programmes. This is a senior post within the staffing structure.
The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner with a proven track record of securing strong outcomes and driving sustainable school improvement. As Assistant Headteacher, you will provide professional leadership and management of the Science Department while contributing fully to the wider strategic direction of the school.
You will inspire and motivate students and colleagues alike, fostering a culture of high expectations, collaboration and continuous improvement. Teaching across all Key Stages, you will have overall responsibility for maintaining and further improving our outcomes in Science.
A key aspect of the role will be establishing and embedding robust systems that promote healthy accountability. You will lead effective monitoring and evaluation processes, ensuring that clear expectations, consistent standards and supportive challenge are in place across the department and your wider areas of responsibility. Through intelligent use of data, quality assurance and staff development, you will ensure systems are coherent, sustainable and focused on improving outcomes for all students.
In addition to leading Science, you will play a significant whole-school role, based on the school’s strategic need. The role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking and the ability to ensure that systems, structures and accountability measures are firmly embedded and consistently applied.
