Assistant Headteacher/SENCo job summary

Assistant Headteacher (L1-3) (3.5 days teaching commitment)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed leader, SENCo and class teacher to join our team at Lutton St Nicholas Primary Academy. We are interested in candidates who have a passion for teaching and ensuring children receive the very best. The candidate must also have a genuine desire to support SEND pupils through the delivery of an inclusive education and high expectations, with an unwavering commitment to the safeguarding of children.

At our school we have a simple vision:

Forming creative, curious and caring learners

If you are:

  • An inspirational practitioner who aspires to school leadership
  • Flexible and committed to working as part of a team
  • Passionate about children's learning
  • Dedicated, organised and enthusiastic
  • Talented and creative...

Then we are interested in speaking to you.

As a school, we want to work with someone who wants to develop professionally, is eager for leadership opportunities and wishes to widen their impact beyond their own classroom: someone who remains committed to teaching but wishes to develop their strategic thinking and leadership skills.

The successful candidate will ensure pupils are safe, valued and well-supported in their learning. As the school’s SENCo, they will demonstrate a working knowledge of SEND and inclusion, with a commitment to undertaking the NPQ qualification for SENCos where applicable.

We can offer the successful candidate:

  • A friendly and welcoming school
  • A supportive Headteacher and Governing Body
  • Opportunity to develop leadership skills and expertise within SEND
  • Strong support from the central trust team
  • Excellent opportunities for professional development

The Assistant Headteacher will have the ability to lead from the front, develop leadership in others and drive effective change in the quality of teaching.

Key leadership responsibilities:

  • Leading SEND and inclusion through effective modelling and monitoring of classroom practice, working with staff, families and external agencies to ensure children are well supported
  • Fulfil role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Act as behaviour lead, monitoring and supporting pupils and colleagues
  • Drive high standards of teaching and learning in collaboration with the headteacher and the trust
  • Acting as a lead practitioner through the provision of consistently strong classroom practice

We are committed to safeguarding and all employees are subject to an enhanced DBS check. All pre-employment checks are in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Commitment to safeguarding

Lutton St Nicholas Primary Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and young people and expects all in the school community to share this commitment.
