Assistant Headteacher - SENCO job summary

We are seeking an outstanding and experienced SENCO who is passionate about ensuring that every child receives the support, challenge and opportunities they need to succeed. The successful candidate will combine expert knowledge of SEND provision with the strategic leadership skills required to drive an inclusive culture across the whole school.

As Assistant Headteacher - SENCO, you will lead and shape the school’s vision for inclusion, ensuring that pupils with SEND and other vulnerable learners are fully supported to achieve ambitious outcomes alongside their peers. You will oversee high-quality SEND provision, champion evidence-informed practice and ensure that statutory responsibilities are delivered with rigour, care and professionalism.

We are looking for a resilient and highly effective leader with a proven track record as a SENCO or significant SEND leadership, who can work collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies to secure the very best outcomes for young people. You will be skilled in developing staff expertise, challenging barriers to learning and embedding inclusive practice within teaching, curriculum design and behaviour systems.

The successful candidate will be both strategic and operational — able to influence whole-school improvement while maintaining a relentless focus on the individual needs, progress and wellbeing of pupils with SEND. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious leader to make a significant impact on the lives of young people and to shape a culture where inclusion is at the heart of everything we do.
