What skills and experience we're looking for

Assistant Headteacher: SEND, Nurture & Inclusion

Leadership Range 1-4 (£49,781- £53,602)

Start Date: 1 September 2025

We’re looking for an Assistant Headteacher who will lead our inclusion agenda as SENDCO. We want to bring someone in who really cares about children and deals with them and their families sensitively, whilst championing their needs proactively and efficiently. You’ll be someone who makes sure every child’s experience here is supported by all the right people, in all the right ways.

You’ll be:

  • A SENDCo with experience in a Primary or specialist provision setting. (Experienced in SEND and inclusion, with the ability to lead this area confidently across the school.)
  • NPQ SEND or NASEN qualified or committed to gaining the qualification.
  • Strategic – able to oversee the EHCP cycle, lead on early identification, and ensure no child slips through the net.
  • Passionate about nurture – you’ll take the lead in developing our newly forming nurture provision and re-integration strategies for children who need a different route back to learning.
  • Skilled in SEMH support, with the knowledge and empathy to develop programmes of intervention, signpost support and work closely with external professionals.
  • Calm, fair and emotionally intelligent, with high expectations for behaviour and a toolkit of strategies to help embed consistency and compassion across the school.
  • A team player who enjoys working with others and can inspire and support colleagues to develop and improve practice.
  • Someone who values all people equally and enjoys dedicating your professional energies to making sure all children make progress and feel good about themselves.

Most of all, you’ll be someone who wants to make a difference – someone who’s ready to get stuck in, bring their ideas to the table and help lead real change. You’ll be a vital part of our new leadership team – and we will look to you to shape the vision for inclusion, nurture and SEND across the school.

In return, we offer:

  • A chance to be part of a new and ambitious SLT, shaping the future of Little Heaton from the ground up.
  • Brilliant children who are ready for a fresh start and need the right adults around them.
  • A supportive team and a warm, welcoming school community.
  • The opportunity to lead and grow a provision with real impact.
  • Opportunities for professional development in a growing Trust
  • Teachers career average pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

If this sounds like the kind of opportunity you’ve been waiting for, we’d love to hear from you.
