Assistant Headteacher job summary
We are looking to appoint an outstanding Assistant Headteacher, who will play a central role in shaping the ethos and culture of this specialist provision for 8-16 year olds with social, emotional and mental health needs in Ipswich.
As part of the Unity Schools Partnership multi-academy trust, the school is part of a collaborative, forward thinking group of 30 schools. Sir Bobby Robson School educates young people who have SEMH needs, as well as providing for pupils with additional complex needs such as ASD. The school opened in September 2020 with 30 pupils in the first year, and will grow to 60 pupils in the second year. The school is part of the Trust’s network of special schools, alongside The Bridge School, Ipswich and Churchill Special School, Haverhill. In addition to this, we have been approved to open a new special school in Romford. We as a trust are committed to expanding our Special School provision in the future.
The Assistant Headteacher role will come with a 0.5 part time teaching commitment and you will be part of shaping our long term aim to provide outstanding learning opportunities for our pupils. You will have a comprehensive understanding of teaching, learning and assessment in KS2, KS3 and KS4 and in leading this specialist provision, you will need to be flexible, determined and passionate about providing the best outcomes for pupils, as well as be confident managing challenging behaviours.
Alongside the skills to lead, monitor and evaluate the improvement of learning and teaching across all phases of the school, you will require the skills and thorough understanding to lead on all aspects of highly effective safeguarding across the school and beyond, contributing to a focused, safe and inclusive learning environment. In addition, you will have a track record of working with parents, carers and external agencies to support the EHCP process and evaluate and monitor outcomes. You will have excellent communication skills to support all stakeholders of the school alongside a strategic yet flexible approach to school leadership.
Significant training and development are available through opportunities for professional development, research, teacher training and collaboration between schools and across phases.
