The Wymering School is a special school dedicated to serving wonderful young people with social communication differences such as autism, ADHD, Tourette’s and sensory processing disorders. Pupils also have social, emotional, and mental Health (SEMH) needs arising from their primary neurodiverse need. As Assistant Headteacher with a focus on Assessment and Progress, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our curriculum is effectively tailored to meet the diverse needs of our students. Your primary responsibility will be to lead the development and implementation of a bespoke assessment system that aligns with our curriculum framework and accurately measures the academic, social, and emotional progress of our pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Integration:

- Collaborate with teaching staff to integrate assessment practices seamlessly into the curriculum, ensuring alignment with learning objectives and individual student needs.

- Design assessment strategies that encompass a holistic approach to student development, encompassing academic, social, and emotional progress.

2. Assessment Development:

- Lead the development of a bespoke assessment system tailored to the unique needs of neurodiverse pupils with SEMH requirements.

- Utilize a range of assessment tools and methodologies to gather comprehensive data on student progress, including formative, summative, and diagnostic assessments.

3. Data Analysis and Reporting:

- Analyze assessment data to identify patterns, trends, and areas for improvement in student learning and development.

- Generate clear and concise reports to communicate assessment findings to relevant stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and senior leadership.

4. Professional Development:

- Provide guidance and support to teaching staff on effective assessment practices, including the interpretation and use of assessment data to inform instruction.

- Facilitate training sessions and workshops to enhance staff expertise in assessment and progress monitoring.

5. Collaborative Partnerships:

- Foster collaborative partnerships with external agencies, specialists, and community resources to support the holistic development of neurodiverse pupils with SEMH needs.

- Liaise with external stakeholders to share best practices and stay informed about the latest developments in assessment and special education.

6. School Values Integration:

Qualifications and Requirements:

- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant teaching experience in special education or SEMH settings, ideally at a middle or senior leadership level.

- Proven experience in assessment design, implementation, and data analysis.

- Strong understanding of neurodiversity, SEMH needs, and effective strategies for supporting student progress.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

- Demonstrated leadership abilities and a commitment to continuous professional development.

- Alignment with the values and ethos of our school community.
