Assistant Principal (Curriculum and Progress) job summary
This is a rare opportunity to become a key member of the Senior Leadership Team in a growing school. Great Western Academy opened in brand new, state-of-the-art facilities in North Swindon in September 2018. Our three lower school cohorts are significantly over-subscribed, and our Sixth Form opened in September 2019 has nearly 100 students on roll between Years 12 and 13. We are seeking a dynamic and creative individual who will inspire both students and staff and lead our curriculum planning and tracking of student progress to help ensure the Academy builds on its excellent reputation to date.
This post is available as part of the planned growth of the Academy’s SLT to match the growth of the school. The successful candidate will show passion, drive, and the ability to further develop our work in the following main areas:
• developing, planning, staffing and timetabling the Academy’s curriculum
• supporting the achievement of all students by setting aspirational targets for student outcomes and tracking and summarising their progress towards those outcomes
• further developing our already effective assessment systems so that they best support exceptional student outcomes
As a member of our SLT there will also be significant opportunities to influence many other aspects of the Academy’s work to ensure the excellence we have established in staff and students at GWA continues as we grow into our fourth year and beyond.
The reality of working in a growing school is that leadership roles can develop significantly as the school expands, providing the opportunity for the right candidate to develop their career in several possible directions over the coming years.
Great Western Academy aims to radically improve the life chances of every student who attends. We will use our fantastic facilities to help achieve this, but it is the team of staff who will turn our vision into reality. If you have the proven ability to inspire and lead a high performing team then we would be delighted to hear from you.
Further details are available on the Academy website www.gwacademy.co.uk and in the information documents attached. Informal conversations with the Principal, Graham Davis, are available prior to application; please contact Gill Edwards on 01793 209700 to arrange this if desired.
Applications should be submitted electronically to recruitment@gwacademy.co.uk by 9am on Monday 25th January 2021. Interviews will take place during the week beginning 1st February.
Commitment to safeguarding
Great Western Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks. All posts within the Trust are therefore subject to an Enhanced DBS and barred list check.
