Assistant Principal (Inclusion/SENDCo & Pastoral) job summary

Due to the promotion of the current post holder, we are looking to recruit an Assistant Principal to lead Inclusion/SENDCo and Pastoral at Hammond Academy. This post is offered part-time (0.8/4 days per week). You will lead and be supported by a Pastoral Lead & Family Liaison, Learning Mentor/Thrive Practitioner and a team of support staff. This role is non-class based. However, flexibility to teach if/when required is essential.

We are an inclusive, 2fe school and are proud to be part of the Aspire Academies Trust. In 2023, we were rated 'Good' by Ofsted in all areas. Since then, we have continued to strengthen and develop our inclusive practice and provision. The Role of Assistant Principal (Inclusion/SENDCo & Pastoral) at Hammond Primary School

The Assistant Principal (Inclusion/SENDCo & Pastoral), in collaboration with the Principal, plays a key role in raising achievement of learners with SEND. They will take day to day responsibility for the operation of the SEND/PPG/FSM/CLA/EAL and More able policies and strategic direction of the school. They will lead on the provision made for individual children within these groups, working closely with staff, parents and carers and other agencies. The Assistant Principal (Inclusion/SENDCo & Pastoral) also provides related professional guidance to colleagues with the aim of securing high quality teaching for learners within identified groups. The Assistant Principal (Inclusion/SENDCo & Pastoral) will be responsible for developing a culture where Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging are at the heart of the school culture and ethos.

Key Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

To assist the Principal in the leadership and management of the school

To take full responsibility for leading and managing accelerated progress for all SEND/PPG/FSM/CLA/EAL and More able pupils

To be the lead professional exemplifying Teachers’ Standards and professionalism; to be a role model for colleagues, and to ensure all staff, including ECTs, are fully supported

To carry out class teaching duties, as required, in accordance with the school’s schemes of work and the National Curriculum

To undertake annual Performance Management, setting and agreeing targets linked to the school development plan and setting priorities with the Principal

To line manage support staff and the pastoral support team within the setting

To develop leaders at all levels by creating opportunities for champion roles

To plan professional development opportunities for support staff

Oversee the pastoral and wellbeing provision for the school, identifying, initiating and providing support as necessary to the pastoral support team and wider school

To ensure a therapeutic approach to behaviour is implemented and understood by all stake holders

To be the designated safeguarding lead

To review policies and procedures as directed by the Principal such as: SEND Information report, Equality Policy and objectives, Accessibility plan, PPG Strategy

To take a lead role in engaging parents and ensuring the views of parents/carers are listened to
