Thetford Academy

Thetford Academy is looking for an enthusiastic, inspiring, and ambitious leader who shares our belief that all students have the right to succeed and have access to the very best education. We are a school at the academic and cultural heart of our community, teaching our pupils a curriculum that prepares them for their futures, while at the same time building an appreciation and understanding of the world in which they live. Our aim is that students leave Thetford as kind, thoughtful and informed citizens, ready to make a contribution to their own community and beyond.

We are part of the Inspiration Trust, twice ranked as the country’s top family of comprehensive schools for pupil progress, and strongly believe in the importance of giving the widest educational opportunities to all young people, regardless of their background. We have strong networks across the Trust, with opportunities to work with a diverse range of schools and partners. We are committed to offering excellent professional and learning opportunities for our staff, with a busy programme of continuing professional development courses delivered by some of the country’s best educational thinkers and practitioners.

Senior leaders at Thetford have above all else a responsibility to promote and sustain the highest standards of student behaviour and welfare, and as an Assistant Principal you will be an integral part of a leadership team that is very visible around the school. We are looking for someone who relishes this ‘out and about’’ approach, and it will mean you need to quickly and effectively build strong relationships with students, families and staff. We are an 11-18 school with a growing Sixth Form and the appointed senior leader will have the opportunity to work across the whole age range.

The successful candidate will be passionate about our vision of creating a truly excellent school that is characterised by intellectual rigour in every classroom, the moral development of all students, and enrichment that broadens the life experiences of children in our community. We are looking for someone who is able to ‘see the big picture’ and to design strategies for improving our school, whilst at the same time having a clear sense of how strategy is made real through careful management of communication, training and resources. You will need to be confident in leading teams of teaching and support staff and giving direction, while being resilient enough to receive feedback from colleagues who will have a wealth of expertise on which you can draw.

We are a diverse school with high levels of EAL, and staff and students from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. We are firmly committed to seeing that diversity reflected across our staff. If you are excited about our role but feel that you may not ‘fit in’ we strongly encourage you to get in touch to arrange a visit or phone call for a discussion.

Visits to the school are encouraged for anyone considering an application. Please email Ilona Haye (ilonahaye@inspirationtrust.org), PA to the Principal, to make an appointment.
