Assistant Principal - Waltham Gateway & Scartho Gateway Academies job summary
Waltham Gateway Academy and Scartho Gateway Academy provide fantastic opportunities for ambitious and energetic professionals to lead and work alongside the new Principal, a new team and supportive Trust, in order to shape the direction of travel for the exciting launch of the new academies in September 2025 and beyond. The new Assistant Principals will have significant impacts upon the lives and opportunities experienced by the young people of Scartho/Waltham and across North East Lincolnshire.
Both academies will eventually provide for up to 210 pupils from Reception to Year 6. Each academy also has a Resource Specialist Provision (RSP), which will cater for up to 12 children from North East Lincolnshire the local region, with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. During the first year, both schools will offer 15 places for children in reception; up to 30 places for a mixed 1/2 class; up to 30 places for a mixed 3/4 class and 6 places in the RSP. The schools will then expand, at an agreed rate with the local authority, every year.
We are seeking to recruit exceptional individuals to become Assistant Principals at each of the new primary academies. Initially, as each school develops, the leadership team will consist of a Principal and an Assistant Principal. Therefore, the role will encompass a range of leadership responsibilities, including aspects such as curriculum, behaviour, safeguarding, SEND and personal development, depending on the experience and background of the candidate. A background in safeguarding at a leadership level would be beneficial. The role will also have a significant teaching timetable though this is likely to reduce as the academies develop and numbers of pupils and classes increase.
Our ethos is one of an uncompromising drive to achieve the highest standards of outcomes and behaviour in a safe environment which encourages every student to experience an exciting and creative climate for learning. We place a strong emphasis upon the pastoral care of our students and our new Assistant Principals will share the determination to offer the very best to our students so that they can thrive personally and academically.
The successful candidates will be experienced classroom teachers and have experience of working in leadership capacities at either middle or senior level. They will be dynamic and inspirational leaders, possessing the intellect, experience and vision to drive the new academies to great success. Importantly, we are looking for the right candidates to develop a joint ethos of support, ambition, aspiration and inspiration for our staff and children. Collaboration is key to our development and the successful candidates would enjoy very close partnerships, working alongside the Executive Principal and other senior leaders within our Trust.
Experience of working with children with additional needs, including those with SEMH, is desirable and the candidates will have good knowledge and a practical understanding of the SEND code of practice. A commitment to ensuring the new academies are fully inclusive schools and the RSPs are very much part of the academy and not an addition, is essential.
The Executive Principal is already working closely with the Local Authority SEND team as well as organisations such as Trauma Informed Schools UK, as each academy will be adopting a whole school approach to supporting children with SEND, especially those with SEMH. Crucially, the successful candidates must display the necessary characteristics to drive this whole school approach and be committed to working closely with the local authority and other external providers.
The roles will start officially between June 2025 and September 2025 but this will depend on the availability of the successful candidates. There is a great deal of on-going preparation work required in the build-up to the opening of the academies. Therefore, there is an opportunity for the successful candidates to be involved in the preparatory stages, working closely with the Principals, Executive Principal and the Local Authority team, even if in an advisory capacity, as it is recognised that the successful candidates are likely to have existing job roles until the official appointment date.
Please visit our websites Scartho Gateway Academy - Welcome To Scartho Gateway Academy and Waltham Gateway Academy - Welcome To Waltham Gateway Academy for details about the new academies.
Please note, at this stage, it has not been decided which academy the successful candidates will be assigned to in September 2025. This will be discussed at interview.
Applications should be submitted via My New Term by 9.00am on Wednesday 12 February 2025. The personal statement should include:
- Why you are interested in this role and your vision for the Academy
- The personal qualities and experience that you will bring to the role
- The contribution you can make to the continued success of the Trust
Candidates will be selected for interview and contacted by 14 February 2025.
Interviews will take place w/b Monday 24 February 2025.
