Assistant Safeguarding Officer job summary

South Hunsley School and Sixth Form College are seeking to appoint an Assistant Safeguarding Officer to work up to 37 hours per week, plus 5 additional days during school closure periods. The actual salary is £20,536.58 per annum. The Role:
This is a role that places you at the heart of the school, working directly with students, staff and external bodies to keep our students safe. Supporting the Safeguarding Officer to effectively manage and reduce risk of harm for students, you will receive and collate referrals from the pastoral team and you will hold your own caseload, liaising with multi-agency partners, students and their families. Working with students with varying levels of risk, you will respond to and plan to meet individual student’s needs, with advice and guidance from the Safeguarding Officer. You will ensure child protection issues are dealt with safely and escalated appropriately, ensuring Child Protection Policy and procedures are implemented quickly and effectively.

You will work as part of our friendly, dedicated Safeguarding and Inclusion Team, supporting the Safeguarding Officer, and Designated Safeguarding Lead to work together to further enhance the support and guidance offered to our young people.

Your knowledge, experience and skills:
You will hold GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths, grade C or above and will have high levels of ICT skills and experience of writing reports and action plans. With experience of acting as an advocate, you will have persuasive and influencing skills, and experience of dealing with sensitive and contentious issues skilfully, effectively and confidently.
Your up to date knowledge of the variety of issues facing children and young people (e.g. self-harm, substance misuse, sexual health, gender identity, online safety) will be crucial, as will your knowledge of safeguarding procedures within an educational setting.
