What skills and experience we're looking for

The role is suitable for a qualified teacher or non-teaching member of staff

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant SENCO to join our team at Sir Thomas Boughey Academy. This is an exciting time for the SEND Team as we promote collaborative working across the Trust with the teams at Newcastle Academy and Clayton Hall Academy. The successful candidate will be passionate in making a difference for our children. Having been judged as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in February 2022, we are eager to continue on our school improvement journey – and we look forward to having you on this journey.

The successful candidate will:

  • work with accuracy, be a good organiser, and be able to deliver to agreed timescales

  • show initiative and adopt a flexible approach to your work

  • be dedicated and hardworking, and enjoy, even relish, a school environment

  • be able to fully support the SENCO, including with strategic development of the SEND Faculty.

What the school offers its staff

Sir Thomas Boughey is an academy where we all strive for excellence. We have a real sense of community, and being part of the community is incredibly important to us. At Sir Thomas Boughey, you will find enthusiastic young people, and the staff will make you welcome, and will support you.

As part of United Endeavour Trust, you will be open to opportunities to develop as an individual within the school but also across the trust itself, through our Trust Training Academy. The value of being part of our team should not be underestimated. Joining Sir Thomas Boughey will mean that you will be part of a supportive and dedicated group of staff who will invest in your professional development. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your abilities and knowledge whilst working in a supportive environment in conjunction with other very dedicated and professional staff.

Further details about the role

The SEN department is central to our aim of being ‘Outstanding’ in every Ofsted category. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic to join the team and support the SENCO with the day-to-day running of the SEND Faculty, and with strategic development.

If you join us, you will work hard, but will receive 100% support from our talented team and from me personally. Please call the Head of HR on 01782 973017 if you have any questions or wish to arrange a visit prior to application.

In addition to completing the application form, please let me know your experience and philosophy to date in a letter no longer than 2 sides of A4 addressing the following points:

  • Why do you have a passion to support students with SEND?

  • What will you bring that will further develop the SEND Faculty to become Outstanding?

  • Commitment to safeguarding

Sir Thomas Boughey Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of our students and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check applies to all roles.

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023, please be aware that online searches of shortlisted candidates may take place as part of our due diligence processes.
