Assistant Vice Principal (Behaviour and Attendance) job summary

Aspire is seeking to appoint an Assistant Vice Principal to lead on the areas of Behaviour and Attendance. The successful candidate will have already demonstrated excellent leadership skills in their current or previous roles. As a leader you will be highly motivated, ambitious and driven. You will be an adaptive and creative thinker, and be able to strategically apply this to devising and implementing new initiatives. The successful candidate will be a highly visible part of our school community, an integral part of both the leadership and wider school teams. This is an excellent opportunity for both established and new leaders to undertake a rewarding and challenging role, and professionally develop further in a dedicated, committed and supportive environment.

The successful candidate will lead and manage a large, experienced and highly skilled pastoral team. They will also lead a dynamic and multi-functional attendance team, who build relationships with families, support home education, and break down the barriers families have to engaging with education. The candidate will be supported in their training around their statutory requirements regarding attendance. An understanding of trauma and EBSA are desirable but can be provided through training. Existing experience and understanding of Autism, ADHD, AuDHD would be beneficial to the role. The role will require working with trauma informed assessment systems to target group and individual interventions. The successful candidate will need to engage with, and lead on, Safe Handling training and be confident in tailoring and delivering a range of CPD, both internally and externally (if required).

Aspire is a large and successful Alternative Provision academy for KS3 and KS4 students. The students at Aspire are not able to engage with mainstream education. typically due to learning needs, significant trauma, or as a result of permanent exclusion. The core offer meets basic needs, allowing for greater levels of regulation and engagement. There is a strong focus on the assessment of need, breaking down barriers and developing the whole child. Preparing students, personally and academically, for the next stage is vitally important. Student academic outcomes at Aspire are exceptional, as are the numbers of students who go onto post-16 provision, education and training. Aspire actively seeks opportunities to enrich student lives and experiences beyond the classroom. There is a weekly built in enrichment time and trips and visits, including overseas travel, is encouraged and supported.

Aspire staff are committed, highly skilled and motivated professionals, with strong interpersonal skills and who recognise relationships are key to the success of student progress. Aspire invests heavily in the professional development of staff in all areas (support, admin, teaching and leadership). As a result, Aspire has a large and highly skilled team of qualified professionals, including in the areas of mental health, trauma and attachment, examination and access assessors, speech and language and autism. Aspire supports opportunities for all colleagues to explore their areas of professional interest and to become further experienced or qualified in those areas.

Strong communication and organisational skills are essential for this role. The successful candidate will be able to model the highest levels of professionalism, with both empathy and integrity, whilst building strong and key relationships with colleagues, our students, parents and commissioners. The personal qualities of resilience, self-awareness and strategies for self-regulation under pressure are imperative.

It is expected that the successful applicant will have recent experience in, and evidence of, substantial impact on the improvement of a school/academy in areas which are relevant to this role.
