Associate Head of Faculty: Social Sciences job summary

The Faculty of Humanities

The Faculty comprises several departments: Geography, History, Religious Studies and Sociology and Social Science (comprising Sociology, Psychology and Criminology) and are each led by a Head of Department. The role of Head of Department: Sociology and Social Science is to oversee the principle subject of Sociology along with Psychology and Criminology. The Faculty teaches from Years 10-13, with very high and successful uptake of A-Level Sociology, Criminology and Psychology. Sociology is also taught at Key Stage 4, with 3 classes in year 10 and 3 classes in year 11 at present, the subject is highly valued within our curriculum and take-up of the subject at both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 is strong.

Head of Department role and teaching requirements

We are looking to appoint an experienced teacher of Sociology who is able to contribute to the teaching of the Criminology Diploma within the Sixth Form. The candidate will need the leadership qualities and management skills to contribute to leading Sociology, Psychology and Criminology within the Faculty. A-Level Psychology is managed by a TLR post-holder and is a successful subject in its own right and the Head of Department role will manage the post holder for Psychology. The department has a strong track record of success at A Level and inspires many pupils to pursue Social Sciences courses in Higher Education, the popularity of the subject and the size of our cohort brings many opportunities to contribute to the work of an outstanding Sixth Form. Additionally, the Head of Department role will engage with data to monitor and target progress interventions and contribute to CPD opportunities within the Faculty. The successful candidate will work with 3 other Heads of Department in a collaborative and supportive team under the direction and management of the Head of Faculty.
