BASED AT: Samuel Whitbread Academy

RESPONSIBLE TO: Academy Principal

The Bedfordshire Schools Trust (BEST) is a multi-academy trust providing exceptional education across our community of 10 schools and five nurseries. Since forming in 2016, we have grown significantly into one of the largest single employers in Central Bedfordshire. We now educate more than 5,000 children across the area, from nursery age to advanced level study. It is our aim to grow the BEST in everyone, and everything we do is driven by our values, but our aims can only be achieved if we recruit, retain and develop the highest quality workforce – and we want those we employ to be valued in the workplace. The first eight years of BEST has been a real success story – and we are looking forward to an exciting future, too.

Samuel Whitbread Academy are seeking to appoint a dynamic Associate Principal to play a key role in the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that every young person, regardless of their starting point, or background receives a high-quality education, including first class care, guidance and support. The post holder will be able to demonstrate a proven record of accomplishment on delivering whole school initiatives and will have responsibility for whole school safeguarding and Personal Development. Excellent behaviour management skills, resilience and strong organisational skills are essential for this role.

In addition, the successful candidate will lead a strong team of safeguarding professionals, undertaking the overall responsibilities of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). You do not currently need to be a DSL but must have significant experience and training in this area as well as the willingness to undertake accredited DSL training. Whatever your experiences to date, you must demonstrate how you have had an impact on the lives of young people e.g. through improving behaviour, raising academic performance or through strategic leadership in another form. Most important of all is that you have the kind of positive mindset that believes anything is possible.

As a leader, we would like you to be an excellent Teacher with high expectations of yourself, our staff and our students. You should be willing to contribute to all aspects of school life and to have made a significant impact in your current role. You will lead by example and be highly visible around the academy. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and passionate about a senior role at Samuel Whitbread Academy and excited to help us define our future.

You may currently be a successful middle leader or equivalent who is looking for the next step in your career or you may be an existing senior leader who wants the chance to utilise their experience in the setting of a brand-new school, helping us keep our values at the forefront of everything we do.

This role will involve working closely with the students at Samuel Whitbread Academy and you will be engaging in regulated activity with children.

Samuel Whitbread Academy

We offer an exceptional academic and extracurricular experience at Samuel Whitbread Academy in an outstanding learning environment where students are expected to work hard and achieve their best.

In our last Ofsted inspection, we were judged as ‘Good’ with many outstanding features and over the next three years we have set ourselves the target of being Outstanding!

Our GCSE results are amongst the best in the Local Authority. We offer a well-balanced curriculum with plenty of choice to prepare our students for the next stage in their lives. Most of our students continue on to the Sixth Form, which is one of the largest and highest performing in the area - providing students with a huge range of courses designed to match the expectations of universities and employers.

Our pastoral care is exceptional and we have dedicated pastoral support teams for each Year Group. The Academy is also broken down into five houses, named after people who have made a distinctive contribution to our community. These provide the framework for the multitude of different competitions, celebrations and charity events that bring our school community together during the year.

Extra-curricular opportunity is a vital part of our ethos and we expect all of our students to get involved in at least one club or activity. There are a huge number of opportunities ranging from highly competitive sports teams to spectacular drama and musical performances.

We enjoy showing visitors around the school so please take the opportunity to come and see us during the school day, so you can see Samuel Whitbread Academy in action and we can answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.
